I say if we could get a second and some other pick for the guy, trade his assss right now. As stated from day one. Never liked him coming here and never liked what we pay him even less. Good ? I would say decent beyond that he is run of the mill average at best.
He is over paid. But gosh damn he gets **** on around far to much. Average? Decent? Your flat out wrong.
His contract isn't that bad in reality, but if you want a 2nd round pick you need to be trading players that are cheap.
Correct. Although, a creative capologist could find a way to work with the gm to pay some of his salary this year so that the new team doesn't have to (convert to signing bonus, like what the Rams did with Jason Smith). EDIT, still not getting a 2nd round pick for him though. Maybe a 4th MAYBE
I can just imagine how amazing our LB corps will be without Dansby back there. Goodness. Might as well just lineup with 10 men on the field if we get rid of him- will probably have the same effect.
I think if you think Dansby is really overrated, the problem is more an issue with your perception than his play. He's doing about what you'd expect. He's probably at worst hit maybe 85% of reasonable expectations for him. There is an argument in my mind that the Dolphins have mis-used him to a degree(if you sign a guy who is getting paid like he is because he is maybe the best jack-of-all-trades linebacker you should use him to the range of his abilities rather than a pretty vanilla 3-4 ILB), but that's not Dansby's issue. I think there are some concerns about his leadership. The coming into camp overweight, the complaining about Chad Johnson, etc. are problematic. Is it enough to get him traded? Maybe it is, but I think Philbin is reaching the extent of unpopular moves that he can make in what might be a bad season without jeopardizing his job.
I live in Arizona and have gone to and watched Cardinals games since they moved to the new stadium. Karlos Dansby at best, is average to sometimes non existent. He has been that way since he entered the league. Arizona may not be a world beater but in no way shape or form do they miss Karlos Dansby. What you see is what you get with him. On occasion he is in the right place and most of the time he is getting thrown into the wash of the lineman. Now this year he is going to be expected to cover people over the middle ? LOL, thats going to be stupid funny bad.
Dansby is one of the best cover linebackers in the league. That much hasn't changed since the time he came here. Problem for him is that the impact plays, INT's, Sacks, Forced Fumbles have been non existent. So it's hard to justify his salary (which was bloated to begin with as he we signed him as a free agent). He and Kevin Burnett are very similar. They are not explosive or ferocious in run support or rushing the passer. But against a team like the Pats, they should shine.. SHOULD.
Guess thats what I think is a joke, his salary. I do not think he stinks it up but its insane the crazy money we gave him. Insane. It appears now that he is making bank he thinks he has the right to criticize even the staff and FO. Thats a bad thing. I would not miss him if they booted him at all, not one bit. As someone said though. His salary is so stupid no other team in the NFL would touch a trade on this guy and Dansby knowsit.
Like I said, I think there's a pretty big argument that they've limited his impact plays because he's been pretty (as much as I hate how the term gets used) vanilla. If you're paying for a linebacker who can literally do everything, you should be getting more creative with him. Dansby was pretty stoically over Guard with a 2-gap bubble in base defense, or dropping into short zones keeping him in the tackle box, or blitzing up the middle. It's really just off of the Falcons game so far, but I think Kevin Coyle is going to be a lot more varied than Nolan was, and will put Dansby to better use.
Hope so. That Falcons game, the fronts we used, particularly in blitz looks had me interested. IMO, Dansby as a decoy blitzer dropping into a zone with his wingspan and athleticism is where he's at his best.
When Dansby hits people they go backwards. If forced fumbles are any indicator...His hitting has generated a number of fumbles comparable to Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis even with less overall tackles. Id say that's pretty solid.
Dansby is a rare 3 down LB who can do everything.... and he's a playmaker. If his head is screwed on straight & he's dedicated, which it seems to be, the guy has plenty of ability to be one of the game's better LBs. The fact that he's trying to become a team leader is reassuring to me. There's no way we should be trading the leader of our defense who seems to be working hard to be his best. That would send a complete mixed bag of signals to the team regarding what the organization expects from them. The message would be perceived as, "if we dont work hard nor buy in, we get cut or traded, but if we do work hard and do try to buy in, we can still get traded, so WTH are we supposed to do?!" Not a single player should be traded from this year's team who works his butt off, regardless of the compensation, unless Philbin & Ireland want to undermine the professional, responsible, hard working culture they're trying to establish.
If he doesn't cool his talk down when it comes to releasing players or the teams direction, I could see him playing elsewhere next year.
Did I miss something Dansby said later on after his "My place is to play hard and be the leader of men." comment?
In 2011, the passer rating for passes thrown into his coverage, was the 8th lowest among ILB/MLBs. Completion pct was 10th lowest in 2011 and 7th lowest in 2010 on passes thrown into his coverage.
Yup. He's garbage. We should definitely get rid of him. Yup. We're rebuilding, let's get rid of any talent we have on the roster.
He gets dumped on so much by fans on this board. Mostly because for some stupid reason folks are worried about his salary. Who else on this weak *** roster deserves a contract that is crippled because of Dansby? You get the usual "hes not a playmaker!!!!". Compare his playmaking (Ints/FF/sacks) to the likes of a Jerod Mayo (division MLB'er) and see what you get.
I don't question it, I'll break it down based on how I personally perceive it: "He's a great player, one of the best corners in the game." ---- He's simply just showing respect to Vontae, his teammate, one he's gone into battle with. I don't see anything wrong with that statement. "I'm not sure about the direction of the team. That's not my place."---- I don't see this as being insubordinate or questioning the decision making. I just see it as a player who knows he's not in the decision making room to know the exact reasoning behind the trade. I didn't interpret "direction" as being either positive or negative but rather that Dansby understands the team has a goal in mind but he's not certain what the specific direction is b/c the tangible results of the trade have yet to play out. My place is to play hard and be the leader of men." ----- reaffirms the above stuff. Almost sounds like he's putting trust in them to do their job b/c he's essentially saying "they do their job and I'll do mine". If he didn't have some faith in what they're doing then I'm not certain he'd make such a superlative and confident quote like this b/c if he felt the team were moving in a negative direction I'm not so sure he'd be emphasizing hard play and leadership when he could've said anything else he wanted.
Welcome to big money free agency. I wasn't a big fan of the signing at the time because I didn't think a guy like him at that position would be a difference maker and he was a good, but not great, player. For good or bad, he's been exactly what I expected. Yes, he is overpaid, but that is true of virtually every big-name free agent. If you want them, you have to overpay them. But he is a good player and his salary won't be put to any better use this year anyhow. I see no reason to get rid of him unless you can get at least a 2nd round pick for him and I don't think that will happen.
Anyone who thinks Karlos Dansby is overpaid is right. He's not the best linebacker in the league. Anyone who thinks he's not in the top 10, if not the top 5, is downright delusional. He's forced one less fumble in his eight years, than Ray Lewis has, ever. Averages about 100 tackles per 16 games. Averages about 4.5 sacks per year. Averages 2 interceptions per year. 5 pass defenses per year. That's more sacks on average than Ray ray and P-Wil, more FFs on average than Ray Ray and about the same as P-Wil. Oh, and he can bring the ****ing wood. Come on guys. It's one thing to argue he shouldn't have gotten a bigger contract than P-Wil, but it's another to say he's AT BEST AVERAGE. It's a stretch to even say that he's not elite. The dude forces turnovers. He's a damn playmaker.
