Can we stop the myth that he's good at this?

But then, what reason would apologists use in justifying his playing time?

Well, he ran well today. Broke several tackles scoring a touchdown, and wouldn't drop the pass Miller did that could have cost us the game.

There is nothing wrong with DT's role on this team. He isn't a starter but he doesn't have to be.

This thread is a little bit like Tim Ryan all day talking about Ryan Tannehill's lack of pocket awareness.
That is the myth my friend.

DT did a great job on the TD run. It made me happy. His other runs were pretty much more of the same as we've always seen from him.

Thomas running today impressed me. Ran hard. Fought for extra yards. Loved it.

Miller is still not impressive. Sure he broke one for 49 but he lacks that second gear. Why in the hell didn't he take that run to the endzone.
    DT finishes the drive.

Why change the subject? Are you seriously defending DT in pass pro? Do you think he's above average at it? I'm serious.

Neither running back has totally impressed me to say they should be starting over the other.. it makes me wonder if we might go out and get another running back via a trade? But I wouldn't say either back has done especially bad. Daniel Thomas scored a TD today and Lamar Miller had a huge run early on to get our offensive jump started (he also made a nice move to get about 20 extra yards on that defensive back).

Miller's problem is not his lack of gears. His biggest problem is he plays soft sometimes.

The defense had the angle on that run. No way was he going to score.

I understand these threads take on a life of their own, but please, is love to see someone argue that he's good at picking up the blitz. Both guys need a lot of work, but can we please stop saying DT can block? Cause he clearly is poor at pass protection.

DT didn't have a single run which Miller could of not of produced equally.

He's been poor the last few games, yes. But he's always been a solid pass protector.

Running back is arguably one of our bigger weaknesses. Neither is impressive and their both giving up sacks every week now.

Dude, come on. I don't think Miller breaks 5 tackles to score that touchdown. I'm not trying to say DT is better, but he has some value.

Fact is, neither has really done too much so far.

Tim Ryan was terrible. Much like Dan Fouts last week there were times when I questioned what the hell he was even looking at.

Its really hard though. DT sucked in pass protections. Nothing anyone says can change the fact that he totally wiffed when all he needed to do was give Tanny a second.

Tim Ryan at points at least made some sense, but seemed to have some weird Tannehill grudge.

Dan Fouts is a different level of incompetence. I can't even get mad at him, because he is like a child who just doesn't know the difference.

Not sure that it's not a problem with the OL more than the RB.

Going into this game DT was 1/0/0 and Miller was 1/1/1.

Hopefully DT corrects the issue because both sacks were on the same type of blitz.

unfortunately both those happened on the same drive, which speaks volumes about what they accomplished the rest of the game.

Thomas did have a sweet move on 16 yd rec. I believe.

Overall though, they're not impressive. But i don't think Philbin cares. I think if we had a vet RB who was good at pass blocking, he'd be out there over both of them at this point.

I don't need the announcers to judge DT. I'm still waiting for your learned defense of his pass pro.

DT's catch and serious cut that got us 15 or so yards in the 2 minute drill before the half was probably the top play of the drive. Neither guy has been a superstar and both have whiffed on some blocks, but overall I have been happy with both players. I am always surprised at the reactions to Thomas's games....I watched him catch the ball and turn upfield nicely, run hard and break tackles, score a TD....then I come onto the forum and a lot of people seem to dislike what he did.

Tanne does hold the ball too long at times, Idk why he doesn't run more. DT has had some poor blocking but overall played well today IMHO. The Dion Sims whiff was a mismatch from the get, why is he solo blocking OSI? His effort was lack luster but it reminded me of that Cleveland back who Wake blew up.

Really? I though Tim Ryan was excellent and a lot of the time it sounded like (to me) that he was wanting us to win.

Tim Ryan is one of the better analysts working these games. I wouldn't mind if he worked our games every week. Just knowing that Serpico doesn't like him would make it more enjoyable.

According to PFF, in 2011, Thomas was the 3rd best blocking half back in the league. In 2012, he was 49th out of 59. This year after two games he was 32nd out of 50. Miller this year after two games is 46th out of 50.

Just another nail in the coffin for Turner? Guy just hasn't produced and even our OL from before him look like they regressed.

At this point it's not even worth arguing about. It should be kind of obvious that he has no future on this team.

His high point, the game when people talk about how "effective" he was at running the football, involves a 4.2 yards per carry average.

For the season he's averaged a paltry 3.1 yards per carry.

And as GARDENHEAD states, his pass protection has been VASTLY overstated for a very long time simply because it was the only semi-positive aspect of his game people could consistently point to that most would agree on. He's generally so poor at everything else that the one area of his game that is more of a "C" on an absolute basis became an "A+" when it came to the message board arguments.

Tim Ryan was on at times at RT, at least 2 of the sacks were on him, and there were a few reads he missed. This being said, I think everyone forgets how many games he has played at the position. We should be looking at some very good upside if he is coached right.

I think we have a coaching staff that likes players with versatility who are at least solid in all phases of the game they might find themselves in. I don't think the coaching staff thinks we have a back on the roster who meets those criteria, and it would be hard to argue with them.
