All he really needed was the Team Defense of a champion, and the Running Game of a champion. They he would have had a ring (or two, or three) of a Champion.
Seen it many times. Great show, though it always kind of depresses me because he never got his much deserved ring.
His Achillies were a problem since he had screws in the back of his leg. That was at the end of his career I believe.
funny, I loved him as a player, but was never really a confident fan, I knew the weaknesses were too much to overcome...
Dan Marino was everything you would need in a quarterback to be a champion. He never got that "Ring" but it wasn't due to any of his own doing or lack of. He didn't have the legs to be a threat as a running quarterback but he more than made up for it with his arm, his skills, abilities and his intelligence. He scared opposing teams to death. His strong arm, quick release and great accuracy made him a deadly weapon and in Bill Walsh's words it made him a system and not a system quarterback. Its just sad that him being known as a great quarterback who didn't win a ring can't be put to rest once and for all.
Here's the way I always look at it People rank Joe Montana the #1 QB of all time BECAUSE he has 4 rings. If Dan Marino had ONE ring he would be the undoubted best QB of all time.
I have a good friend that is/was a 49ers fan and he would always tell me that crap. I would respond with, "well, Otto Graham has 10 rings."
That game they showed against the Colts in October 99 with the miraculous comeback at the end was the last game I ever got to watch with my grandma who was a Dolphins fan. She passed away the following week. I'll never forget that game.
