Just picked up the new Hank Jr. CD today (really, bought an actual CD not just a download) as I am a huge fan of Hank Jr.

New album just came out "127 Rose Avenue"

I really had some mixed emotions with this album, but I listened to every second of it today.

Track #1 - Farm Song made me want to throw the Cd out the window after about 30 seconds. If you want to hear a cowboy rap go find the old Bellamy brothers song [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLEtRs_oN0g&feature=PlayList&p=9E69F9F434D92F10&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=56"]YouTube - Bellamy Brothers: Country Rap[/ame]

Track #2 - Red, White & Pink slips blues - good song in the mold of the Hank Jr standard. Everyman anthem. I like it, but not my favorite on the CD though I suspect at the first single from the album and given it's topic it will far exceed any other song for air time.

Track #3 - High Maintenance Woman - this song felt really forced, a lot of bad reaches for the sake of a rhyme. This song was played once and will be forever relegated to the "skip" button going forward.

Track #4 - Mighty Oak Tree - solid song, had some soulful moments very much seemed the full circle to songs like "All my rowdy friends"

Track #5 - Forged by Fire - Another good song, had a couple of lines that sounded kind of forced but the subject and the overall patriotism of the song should get it on the radio. Again, if you want to revisit Hanks patriotic past look no further than [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqG6hLgiiF4"]YouTube - Don't Give Us A Reason[/ame]

Track #6 - Last Driftin Cowboy - probably my favorite song on this CD, I've not confirmed it but I think this is most certailny a tribute to Merle Kilgore who died in just a few years ago who was with Hank Sr. and then mentored and managed Hank Jr for many years. the back half of this song you can really hear the influence Kilgore had on Hank Jr, if you like Hank's songs from the early 80's you'll dig this one.

Track #7 - 127 Rose Avenue - the title track took me about half a dozen times through before it really soaked in. 127 Rose Ave is the childhood home of Hank Sr and this song is in reference to taking a 5.00 tour through the home. Outstanding song, spend the buck at amazon and buy this one.

Track #8 - All the Roads - If you like old country music twang this song will be right up your alley, It's a throwback to the very earliest of Hank Jr's work back in the era of [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HELEvqzQQW8"]YouTube - All For The Love Of Sunshine[/ame].

Track #9 - Sounds Like Justice - This song kind of grew on me. The first time through I thought it was too Toby Keith-ish (not a compliment). If you want to revisit Hank Jrs affection for vigilante justice in song go to[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN-MrZ95dbU"]YouTube - Hank Williams Jr.-Mr Lincoln[/ame]

Track #10 - Long Gone Lonesome Blues - Oh sweet heavens I wanted to like this song so much but it just went down the wrong ego path. I will say Hank Jr has a fondness for singing in character to himself in the past, but this one is a topper. Bleh. If you really want to hear Hank Jr sing this song go [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pkfiuaSTiI"]YouTube - LONG GONE LONESOME BLUES by Hank Williams Jr.[/ame] and save your ears from the new one.

Track #11 - Gulf Shore Road - Not a bad song, not a good song. Just a filler song. Kind of reminded me of Jimmy Buffet, but not the good Jimmy Buffet. Maybe if Warren Buffet tried singing.

I have listened to these new songs from the Album on YouTube (amazingly cool to use as resource before buying decision)...but agree nothing on this album really speaks to me as instant classic.

Still will buy the BEST OF before laying down cash for the new stuff.

In my minds eye I remember albums like Five-O or Lone Wolf can you could sit and listen to and enjoy every song. Part of the reason I hate modern country is that they push the lyrics and force unnatural sounding lyrics and try to modernize the sound too much so that it's a country / pop blend.

I know if the morons wouldn't buy it they wouldn't make it like that so I blame the modern culture of idiots that don't know good music.
