    Hi All

Maybe some of you are in the same position as me, I will be losing my Amex Costco card in April 2016, as they no longer have a partnership. My question is what card will you all go to or do you have a card you love already and will just ditch Amex. Im looking for a new card with great benefits, I already have a Chase Sapphire preferred and Citi preferred visa signature. Im going to be doing a lot of traveling next yr, so trying Im looking for either cash back or 1:1 airline miles.

I hear some good things about the Discover IT card, but I don't have any firsthand experience with it. I don't have a card I love, but I mostly use one associated with amazon as I buy often from there and get points (or statement credit).

I have a Mastercard but my Discover card is pretty much the only card I've used for the last 18 years or so. 2% cash back (statement credits, gift cards, or redeemable during amazon purchases) and they have other quarterly cash back promos. Their customer service is the best and their support when I've had unauthorized or disputed charges is top of the line. Imo everything else is just a card.

Discover was the first card I got when i walked on my college campus..I've had it for a very long time, I do love them, but they aren't widely accepted over seas.

I got into trouble with credit cards in my early 20s, partly out of youthful ignorance, and partly out of some really bad timing with things going wrong in my life all at once. My credit score cratered, and I now haven't had or used a credit card in a decade, except for a Best Buy card that my wife and I used to buy a number of home appliances and electronics using 2-4 years no interest and paying it off before that time ran out. Other than that (which I haven't used in a few years either), and my car loan, I only buy what I can afford out of my checking account now. Better safe than sorry.

I do the same, I just put it on a card first. It's a more prudent financial decision to not miss out on the 1% (or more) cash back and to maintain credit IMO.

Last I read months ago was the Citi was going to purchase the Costco Amex accounts and just issue new Costco Visa cards. This is the article that states what is rumored to be happening.

Yup, totally hear ya. But we put everything on the card - HOI, car insurance, tolls, gas, power bills, gas bills, groceries, phone, cable and whatever mundane purchases we make for the household and pay off each month - Whatever we would normally pay for in cash or checks at the end of each month we just pay off one or two credit cards - depending on which card had the better cash back that month. Your credit is the single most important thing to keep up in your life. I had my identity stolen in college and my Credit score suffered tremendously like in the low 500's. I spent 10 yrs making good decisions and building my credit up, paying off two cars, making every payment on time, making every mortgage payment on time, selling a house, buying a house. I actually deserve to earn whatever free stuff CC companies want to give me these days, and although i am new to collecting points and CC bonuses, i intend to use every way possibly to earn what i can.

I use the IHG rewards card. It's nice being able to get hotel rooms free. Like you, I put everything on it and pay it off each month.

After the first year, there's a $49 annual fee but you get 1 free night at any IHG hotel which obviously is worth more than $49.

Personally this is my favorite and I will explain. First I play the credit card system like a fiddle, I got rid of 5700 in debit in under 2 years. I had a bunch of cards and now I only use this one.

Disclaimer: I know I am paying more for the points/miles/money than the 1-2% money back blah blah blha I get this. I am fine with it for a few reasons. MAINLY, I don't carry a balance on this card monthly I pay it off weekly. I use it for everyday items. If I need a pack of gum, swipe it, gift for the kid swipe it, brew for the Dolphins game (make that LOTS of brew ugh) swipe it, tacos from the Bell after they lose again swipe it. I am not spending extra money, but again using it for everyday purchases. With the money back cards I will never separate out the money saved and out it into another account, I am too lazy.

Now why you ask? I don't go on vacation because I cant afford it and after everything said and done if I WERE to spend say 3000 going somewhere instead of doing a project around my house with it, I would not enjoy said vacation because I would vomit thinking about it. The good thing about the capitol one card is you can use it on hotels, trains, planes, automobiles, there are no blackout days, no fees, no limit to the amount you can save. As of right now I have 2500 dollars built up, I plan on going to an island for free when my daughter turns 16.....A little sweet 16 party....

I am so conscious of how much is on my credit cards. I try to eliminate them as much as I can, and when I get out of credit card debt, should be by the end of the year, I will use it and pay it off right away with my checking.

As for Cards, I like the Amazon one basically because of all the points i build up because I use amazon a lot.

Dude just transfer whatever balances you have to a 0% interest on 18 month balance transfer offer, do it, get the card, shred it, pay 40 a week.......boom done...if you have extra money throw it on there...

When I get them all paid off I'm going to still keep them open. If I shred it, after a while of inactivity it closes the account. I want to keep my average length of credit and the maximum credit limit I have.

Only big debt I own is my ****in loans. **** them

If you are paying weekly that is considered activity and they wont close.....I shred them because of temptation. After you pay it off, just call and tell them them to issue you another card...

haha - Im taken, but thanks for the offer. I have looked into the capital one card - im tempted. Im also tempted to get the Platinum plus Amex.

Like i said before we pay everything off at the end of the month and use it to buy everything for the household, plus use it for utilities and whatever extra expenditures we have in a given month. We never purchase outside our means. Only debt we have beside a mortgage, is my partner's law school loans, which are almost paid off. Luckily, i am able to afford a vacation or two, and we are going to take several this yr. Hence, my original question, if im spending the money anyway, i might as well maximize my rewards.
