Bryan seems to be on the bubble and in danger of being cut....I like this kid and given the current state of our Safety unit, believe we should hang onto him. Any thoughts? JS
Well you have to look at the guys he is competing with at the bottom of the roster. Right now, I would take guys like Lex Hilliard, Erik Walden, William Kershaw, Rodrique Wright, and Brandon London over him at this point.
Culver and Clemons are preferable backups. Add Bell, Wilson, and CBs W Allen, Smith, Davis, Jones, and J Allen OR J Thomas. That would be 9 DBs. I can't imagine dropping any of them for Bryan.
The only outside, more than a little outside, chances would be if we feel he is a demonstrably better STer than J Allen or Thomas and we keep 5 safeties and 4 corners. Or, there has been a couple of seasons over the past 10-15 or so, when we kept 10 DBs on the final cutdown to 53. So to keep 10 is not unheard of.
He's decent enough of a player, sort of like Joey Thomas, but with Wilson and Clemons being brought in, and Ty Culver on the roster, we probably don't have room for him. He is the kind of player that if we suffer some injuries I'd imagine is on speed dial.
So far the weakest performance of any unit on this team has been that of the starting Safeties. Be nice to keep what ever decent prospects you can and hope some of these guys develop into replacements for both some day. On pass defense, Wilson is making me miss Renaldo Hill. That's pretty bad..lol
