Not sure if the mods are ok with this here in the mains, but it is our news right now, and why not have everyone involved and knowledgable about the best event of the year.

Billy Turner is fun to watch..we need that nastiness..take him over Clabo in a heartbeat..don't have to spend a 1st either.

Would be a valuable 3rd round pick if available, could compete for RT, and be depth for both sides. I would be a fan of selecting Billy Turner.

yeah me too and it would allow us to not be trapped to selecting a lineman that isn't worth the 19 th.

NFLDraftBites on Twitter has us trading future picks to get into the 8th slot to select Jake Matthews. These people were saying we were trading up to the #3 spot last year for like 3 weeks leading up to the draft. They were assuming we were going after Lane Johnson last year, which obviously wasn't true. If not Matthews, who could it be? Evans? Ebron?

If that somehow turned out to be true, I could see Borland in the 2nd and Turner in the 3rd.

that's some fun speculation, hmm, Aaron Donald would be worth it but we'd have to trade Odrick.

Dolphins work out Idaho RB James Baker.

Idaho RB James Baker is 6-2 and 228. He's from Deerfield Beach, FL.

I wouldn't risk waiting for the third round. I think his floor is early 3rd round. I would jump on him in the second round. To me his value to around there anyway.

To jump from 19 to 8 is 525 points; an early 2nd round pick. ASSUMING we pick 50 again next year (400pts), we have to make up the difference with this years 3rd rounder (185pts).

So we have to ask ourselves IF Jake Matthews falls to 8, is he worth forgoing this years 3rd round and next years 2nd round pick?

7th rounder is fine for me..I want football players who will bleed, leaders, people who will live at facility, I'm looking for a different breed, even if it's in the 7th, be brings value to me, he's a tough sob that's willing to play any position on the team..he's 6 feet tall 220, and will truck your *** if you come up on him, and he can throw the ball if need be..

Lets call it the return of the wildcat.

I would be fine with a draft where we spent every single pick on an offensive lineman. If we have a good oline we will make the playoffs and since this isn't an exact science we should over pick the position to compensate for inevitable busts. Maybe grab a linebacker or two also but make sure you fix the oline first and foremost

Lol..I just saw the chiefs draft room in 1994, talk about professionals acting like they have no clue what their doing, unbelievable that it was that ametuer not that long ago..wow..

You always think because these front offices are in charge of a billion dollar franchise that their perfect ya know...their human..

We truly could put a scouting staff together as good as anyone.

I would take him at 19. He fits. If you listen to Philbin interviews and cutups of Shelley Smith they show on maimidolphins, he is exactly the prospect they are looking for, 6.5, 310 (has size and strength), athletic (nimble on fit) and plays through the whistle. After Lewan there are no OT prospect that fit better. Why wait, we need RT badly? Fox is stiff af, and so is Kuandjio and other available OTs.

I've always found this rule to be a little odd. It just seems like a leftover from the days before the NFL was a billion dollar industry.

In other Draft news, Jeff Ireland was hired by Seattle as a consultant "leading up to the Draft" according to the NFLN ticker. Don't shoot the messenger.

well, they did lose a handful on defense and might lose even more over the next couple years, and Jeffy does have his strong suits when it comes to identifying defensive talent and late round gems.

    ...... and Oline. :shifty:

To be fair, he's found some nice late round guys: Charles Clay, Jimmy Wilson, Rishard Matthews.

I'm interested to see how long he's there as the ticker specifically stated "leading up to the Draft"...I wonder if that means his services conclude after the draft, or if McLoughlan returns; something like that?

It would be ridiculous for Matthews to fall that far, but if he did, and we could move up to get him, he's as sure a thing as any player in this draft.

Considering that KC was pretty good in the mid 90s, the way they went about things in their draft room surprised me too. Can't even say they got the pick right. Greg Hill was decent for a few seasons rotating with Marcus Allen, but one would expect more from a 1st rounder. The other two players they discussed taking, one was Mario Bates who went 44th overall to the Saints and had a similar career production wise. Cannot recall for sure who the other one was. Was it William Floyd? He did even less in the NFL. Given the 3 RBs they seemed to be zeroed in on, I guess we can at least say they picked the best one. Least worst anyway. Marty didn't seem to know much about the other two besides Hill.

I wish we could've kept him on exclusively as a D-line/pass rush specialist where his eye has been insanely good.

Here's the list of EVERY 6th round and earlier pick associated with Ireland since taking over as VP of Scouting for Dallas in 2005 [with the exception of Parcells' #32 pick of Philip Merling during his first year as Miami's czar].

    2012: Olivier Vernon- 11.5 sacks 2013.
    1
    2010: Jared Odrick- quality versatile 5/3/1-tech who can 1 & 2-gap. 15.5 career sacks.
    1
2010: Koa Misi- DE converted to consistent reliable starter at SAM who can stuff the run.
    1
2008: Kendall Langford- Rams current starting DT that Miami didn't need to keep. 5 sacks 2013.
    1
    2007: Anthony Spencer- 11 sacks 2013.
    1
    2006: Jason Hatcher- 11 sacks 2013.
    1
    2005: DeMarcus Ware- nuff said.
    1
2005: Marcus Spears- great starting 5-tech/DT.
    1
2005: Chris Canty- another great starting 5-tech/DT, 21 career sacks.
    1
2005 bonus: 7th round Jay Ratliff- 4x Pro Bowl DT/NT, 28.5 career sacks.
    1
2009 bonus: CFL gem Cameron Wake- 1st Team All Pro. 51.5 career sacks.

The above group combined for 63 sacks in 2013, 343.5 career sacks, and Ireland's 2005 class boasts 196.5 career sacks by itself.

He also discovered Tony McDaniel BEFORE Seattle did. Find me a better success rate or greater list of impact D-linemen/pass rushers anywhere in the NFL, including Seattle. The rich just got richer with this hiring as the NFL's best team and best defense, which lost some impact D-linemen this year and will lose a few more the next couple years, just grabbed one of the league's best eyes for helping them retool this area. Look at the above list and you see it's comprised of pass rushers, 5-techs, and DTs/NTs alike, including both 1 & 2-gap ability. Where does Seattle have needs, including future needs, if they wanna keep the strength of their team intact? Pass rushers, 5-tech, and DT/NT? Coinkydink? I think not. I'm guessing at pick #32 Seattle is looking heavily at Rashede Hageman and possibly Stephon Tuitt to fill Red Bryant's shoes and would welcome Ireland's evaluation; perhaps for Dominique Easley replacing the departed Clinton McDonald's nickel presence; maybe Jeremiah Attaochu, Kony Ealy, or Michael Sam as Chris Clemons' replacement [and Avril's next year]; and possibly a mid to late round DT gem or two to groom behind 2016 FA's Mebane & McDaniel.

Ireland had his moments to be fair. They were just too far and few between. I'm not really sure what to make of Dennis Hickey at this point. I like most of what he's done - bringing back Grimes and Starks, signing Mitchell, getting (overpaying) a left tackle, signing Moreno and Williams. The only real downer in my eye is Finnegan.

That being said, if he comes out of the first two days of the draft with Ryan Shazier, Ja'Wuan James, and say...Martavis Bryant, I'd be pretty impressed.

As it relates to Seattle, I can't remember where I heard this, but there was an interview with Pete Carroll where they said they had plans to move Tony McDaniel to Red Bryant's position. Take that for what it's worth, but it makes me wonder if they're looking for someone on the interior to pair with and/or replace Brandon Mebane when the time comes.

Lol, yeah it was Floyd, but could you believe that, for folks who haven't seen it it's must see tv, Carl peterson is clueless, shottenheimers askin questions like, " so bates doesn't have any character flaws"while the ticker is counting down... Their puttin in tape with 5 mins to go on the draft clock, walking around totally undecisive, total amatuer hour, they finally decide but looking at each other and saying "whatta you wanna do Marty?.....one of the most embarrassing things I've seen related to a pro front office..must see..

Basically what I got out of it was Carl Peterson is not a personal guy, he was a GM that pretended to be one, and made picks based on just his scout staff...and that I'm sure we've come a long way since then..

    Hilarious.
