It does look that way so far. I liked the Wilson signing and am not about to call him a bust so soon. He has played better every week. Here's a few things I take into account. Wilson is changing position, although he did play it before. He is in a new system. Our QB in the secondary (Hill) is gone. He is giving a lot of help to Smith and Davis in coverage. His overall stats are better than what we had last year. Many are down on Wilson because his mistakes were huge and glaring. That is understandable. I want to wait a while before rushing to judgement.
Exactly no team ever makes all the right moves...well unless you are the Pats who signed the highly successful Joey Galloway and Fred Taylor. The key is making more right decisions than wrong and Miami is starting to do that. Although moves like Culpepper > Brees will always haunt there is nothing we can do about it so we must move on.
I wasn't high on the Wilson signing b/c I wanted a ball hawk. I am hopeful that Clemons will end up being that guy. But Sharper was never really a consideration b/c of his age. He simply didn't fit the parameters that the team was looking for. And while I may have wanted a ball hawk; true FS type, Parcells has always emphasized run support over coverage in his DBs. That has been my big disappointment with Wilson. I knew he wasn't great in coverage, but he was supposed to be a great tackler. That failure is what has been most glaring.
As far as coaching the secondary goes, we really miss Renaldo Hill. That dude may have not been a playmaker FS, but he was solid and basically like having a coach on the field. Vonnie Holiday even said it about the Broncos defense, that Hill was basically their X's and O's leader while Brian Dawkins was their emotional leader.
