Just want to say congrats to Wes Welker.

A lot of people knocked him as he left Miami. Some continue to sell him short. Still don't understand why, other than foolish pride.

Wes entered today's game 3rd in the NFL with 84 receptions. Tonight, Wes' tally is up to 93 recs...974 yds...8 TDs.

When all is said and done, he'll have caught over 100 passes and surpassed 1,000 yards. There's a good chance he'll have 10 TDs.

Though he's a Patriot, I really enjoy watching him play. Selfishly, I like that he's proving people wrong. Actually, the only people Welker's proving wrong seem to be Dolphin fans. Everyone else seems to realize what a player he is.

So congrats to Wes Welker. You win at life!

Hes a great player and deserves to win, I just hate to see him winning as a Patriot.

Wes Welker is the only Patriot worth cheering for. The rest of the organization can die in a fiery plane crash.

Even now, Welker's departure is highlighted by the weakness of our TEs. In addition to a strong running game, a competent TE is a young QB's best friend. We really have no threat in that area of the field. Nobody to dump it off to. Nobody who represents a mismatch.

Welker functions as Brady's TE in that offense. And he's a mismatch for most of the guys who end up covering him.

Well I wish him the best as well... As long as he is not playing against us... I really hated losing him as he was the most productive player for us last year. But, we got a franchise center for him and that should equate to bigger and better things down the road... I hope...

Just wish he and all the other guys we let go of could have went too a team we don't see twice a season. Not good planning and doesn't seem like` we got much compared with what they got.

    Ever met the guy?

    Welker a dirty player? C'mon.

Football players talking trash on the field? I don't know if that's true for Welker, but knocking him for it is just

These days a lot of players are thinking just like him. Only now they're saying it while they're still on the team.

It's a great team and a great system. But at some point you have to admit that he's part of why it's great. We got a good haul for him, but revisionist history says we they've gotten the better of the deal. And there's a lot of talk that the Pats were prepared to match a #1 tender for him.

    I agree . . .

I will always respect the things he did as a Dolphin . . . but when he left and ran his mouth . . . I lost respect for him. I could care less for Wes and his stats . . . . I rather root for Reggie Wayne . . . because he is from the UUUUUUU.

Funny no one realized what a great player he was till he had randy moss and stallworth next to him. He's not a bad reciever but is he not even close to great. I seriously do not understand how people can sit here and pretend the guy is the second coming of lynn swann and act like we made the worlds worst mistake letting him go. :001_rolleyes:

Yep . . . a guy like Brandon Stokley could do similar damage on that team in Welkers slot.

He has a top TE, IMO the 2 best starting WR's in the game (I know the Cincy boys are tuff . . . . but Moss is clearly ahead of both of those guys) . . a solid RB . . . whenever they want to use him . . . . and it bugs me to say . . . but the best QB in the game throwing him the ball . . . in a SPREAD offense . . . many could succeed.

I'm not hating on Wes, but its the truth.

It's funny, two years ago in training camp, there was a huge debate on the boards about if Wes would even make the squad.

I agree with Muck, the kid is a baller, and if I was starting a team Wes would be on it.

good show, wes. best to you in everything. i hope you win the super bowl mvp award, that would be sweet.

there's no doubt in my mind that what we did was right at the time, with the info we had then.

in fact, that is exactly the kind of deal that we are always applauding belichick for - getting the best out of a role player, then jettisoning him for picks. it's part of how he's built the dynasty that he has.

i guess that in hindsight though, one would have to view any deal proposed by belichick with a jaundiced eye. after all if he wants to make the deal, then it must be a good deal - for him.

side note: anyone who thinks that wes would be doing as well with us is on crack.
    1. we have no offensive line - we have exactly one good lineman and he;'s playing out of position by the idiot coaches' choice; we have one good role player in hadnot, but he's nothing special, evidenced by his outlandishly STUPID penalties and lack of power blocking despite his size; we have a young center who might be good, or might be great - time will tell. and then we have a bunch of rag-tag journeymen and broken porcelain dolls on stationary bikes to round out the group.
    2. we have no tight ends that are consistent threats, except to drop the ball when it's in their hands.
    3. we don't have a receiver who can hold onto the ball when it counts; ginn is still developing so he gets a pass, but hagan is garbage and it's time to empty the can.
    4. we suck, and the suckitude permeates everything and corrodes it, and no one can play their best in that environment.
it's like when someone dies and you say, "He's in a better place..." well, wes must think he's died and gone to heaven.

Welker is doing well because of the system he's in. He's a clutch player, but after he dogged the organization like he did, I have no respect towards him.

A #2 wasn't terrible value for Welker. Trade him to anyone else and it's fine.

The enormous idiocy was giving NE the vital missing piece. Based on this thread alone I think posters are still underestimating what Welker means to NE. As soon as they got him I posted on a couple of sites that it meant the over/under was Thanksgiving, in terms of either Indy or NE losing their first game.

Look at last year's AFC title game. Put Welker on that field and no doubt NE wins, and perhaps handily. Brady had no one to go to on the crucial 3rd down plays. With slightly over 2 minutes remaining and 3rd and 5 while leading 34-31, Brady locked onto someone and the Colts broke it up. I believe it was Sanders. This year NE was in the identical situation, 3rd down nursing a 24-20 lead and about 2 minutes left. I was in the Imperial Palace sportsbook and shouted before the play, "First down Welker. Game over." And that's exactly what transpired.

Take Moss off the team and they would be less dynamic. Take Welker off and no way they are unbeaten.

Who cares what a guy says? Seriously. It's a competitive league and business. Welker fought long odds and thought he had latched on here after being let go by San Diego. Only natural to say some harsh things when a team decides you are expendable. Players don't like to be traded for draft picks because those are vague commodities. Especially if it's for lower than a #1.

If I were a member of the '72 Dolphins I would be absolutely livid about that dunce cap move.

Dang, are you gonna roll out the red carpet if the Patsies go 19-0 too. Who cares if he was a Fin, he's a patsie now.

...and he needs to shave that goofy mustache, looks ridiculous.

As a Owner, GM, or coach you can only concern yourself with YOUR team.

Put Moss on the Dolphins. Put Welker on the Dolphins. Put every receiver the Patriots have on the Dolphins. It will not matter. We would still lose.

We don't use their offensive scheme and more importantly we don't have their Quarterback. That's the fact. Discussing everything else must be purely entertainment.

LOL. I don't really give a dam whether the player is classy or not. I just want a player that can play football. And Wes definitely can. He got a lot of character, and he's stronger than his previous seasons.

you could plug in just about any other starting receiver in the league in welker's spot and get the same results-
but you could maybe only plug one other reciver in Moss's spot and get the same results.

Have you looked at the state of our organization lately? Would you want to play for us through all the crap that he'd been here for? And can you honestly say that you wouldn't show your excitement for possibly going from one of the worst teams in the league, to one of the best? Welker did, or said nothing wrong IMO.

Joker...long time bro........now that the formalities are done..lol, I disagree. I have always said Welker does the intangibles well. If you could just plug in anyone in his role, Gaffney would be there, or Caldwell, or Washington, or Terrell...on and on.....he is good at what he does.

you forgot to add-and that's the bottom line! it's been too long brother

I'm not gonna argue with anyone about welker i routed for him when he was with us to no end
but it as been a long long long year-everything that could happen has happened-even the site going down-man talk about with drawl
so like everyone else i am taking my frustrations out-i am just gonna choose welker
    instead of the obvious choices
i see what your saying-but remember the guys you mentioned did not have randy moss as a number one and stallworth as a number 2
    but yeah i wont argue
if he was still here i would defend him to the end.
