    Just passing this along:
It is the day before the draft so take it with a grain of salt. If we stayed put and took Kaepernick at 15 I would be more than upset.

Not as much as you might think. This is an example where arguments with certain people have made my opinions about a player seem stronger than they are. My opinions have been strong about the arguments certain people have tried to make with respect to Kaepernick, but that's not saying I hate the player.

Think about this, and this should clear things up. As much as I've argued about Colin Kaepernick, his release, and talked about how I'm not necessarily a buyer because the three most compelling aspects of his game are kind of overrated for a quarterback in the NFL...and as much as I have lavished sticky love all over T.J. Yates...I have them basically rated about the same, waffling on whether I have one as my #5 quarterback or my #6 quarterback...behind 4 guys that I have rated in the 1st round.

    That's a perspective builder.

I feel about Kaepernick the same way I felt about Vontae Davis, which is a hint that I always have it in mind that I could absolutely be wrong.

With Vontae Davis, I had my issues with him. Some of it was about the character stuff that turned out to be a smokescreen which taught me a lesson that I've carried with me to this day about such things. Some of it was simply due to his inconsistent play on the field. Inconsistency seemed a part of who he was, and that bothered me. But I could always console myself about his being picked with one thing, and that is...Miami needed corners, and they just got the best physical specimen at the position in this Draft. I didn't like that corner class that much. I liked Malcolm Jenkins but obviously he had some speed limitations. I liked Sean Smith because he was a physical freak. But Vontae Davis was clearly the most prototypical corner specimen in that Draft from a physical standpoint, and I liked being able to say I could always be wrong about his inconsistency but one thing is for sure this guy is big and strong and a physical dynamo...and there really aren't that many of those (if any) in this Draft.

With Colin Kaepernick it's not actually very hard to like him. Hell, take the mile high view. He's got a HUGE arm, he's a winner, he's pretty accurate, he's smart (like a 37 on the wonderlic), a genuinely good guy, hard worker, etc. Oh and of course, he runs a 4.50 in the 40 yard dash. Warming up to him isn't exactly like warming up to a babysitter with a felony arrest record.

Do I take issue with his release, which I've quantified? Yeah. Do I think that, because of his offense, he's going to exacerbate the release issues by being slow to make his reads? Yeah. Am I a little concerned that for all his being smart and dedicated, he didn't make a ton of progress in college? Yeah. Am I disturbed that his deep ball is about as bad and inconsistent mechanically as you'll find? Yup. Am I worried that he doesn't handle blitzes and/or aggressive coverages nearly as well as some people think? Definitely.

Could all of that end up non-issues once his development arc takes him wherever he's going? You bet.

I'm not going to be in give-up mode just because they go after a Colin Kaepernick. I'll reserve that for Jake Locker and Andy Dalton. Those guys, if Miami takes them...I just wouldn't get it, at all. I see no reasonable path to success for either player.

There is no such thing as a need greater than that of quarterback.

That said, Kaepernick is not the guy we need to field.

So, QB is more of a need than DE for the Patriots? If there aren't any QBs in this draft that are better for us than Henne, then obviously we have more important needs than QB in this draft. (ie. RB, where we have 1 guy under contract, who has never started a game in his career)

Oh no, this infatuation reminds me to much of the Pat White infatuation in 2009 that made him 44th overall.

Obviously QB is more important, but IMO we can win with Henne and a good running game. Meanwhile, I dont see us winning with Hilliard/Sheets no matter who the QB is.

I like Kaepernick and think he will be a good QB in the NFL, but I don't think the Dolphins should draft him with the 15th pick in the draft. If they can trade down in the first round and pick up a second round selection. I think Kaepernick would be an excellent pick in the second round. I happen to think that Dalton, Ponder, and Kaepernick have a much better chance of being quality starters in the NFL than Mallett does. So while I would not be happy with the Dolphins using the 15th pick on a QB in this draft. I would be far more upset if the Dolphins used this pick on Mallett, than I would if they selected Kaepernick, or even Dalton with this pick.

2 things about this. There aretwo teams that LOVE Kaepernick that aren't Miami. One is Denver and I will be surprised if they don't try and move up and take him as Elway loves Tebow the person but not the player.

But the other is Jacksonville. Who pick just after us. There's an awful lot of rumour coming outof Jville the last 72 hours that they will take CoKap in round 1. We shall see.

I like his game, I see some Randall Cunningham in his game, but I also see some Joe Webb and Byron Leftwich in his game in terms of he could just as easily play Wr and he has a long wind up, to me he just is not the type of pick Ireland would make as his risk is off of the charts.

With as anal as Sparano can be Kaepernick would not see the field for at least a yr, maybe 2 yrs, as it would take that long to prep him to be what Sparano would want him to be as a Qb imho.

I really hope we can trade out of the #15th pick and get one or two more picks. I really think Kaepernick would be a big reach at #15. We would probably have a better chance of getting an immediate impact player at another position to justify the #15th pick.

Trading down into the 20's for Kaepernick would still be questionable. We need a player who can produce from day 1. Ireland has already said he's looking for guys who can start right away. This teams needs to win now.

There clearly seems to be an infatuation with the mobile quarterback coming from this organization. With that said, Kaepernick isn't a great prospect, IMO, but he is better than Pat White. At least Kaepernick has some size and has done some things with progression reads that Pat White never did at the college level.

It will be longer than 2 years before this guy is even close to being ready to play quarterback in the NFL. He is a tremendous project. Not to the extent that Cam Newton is a tremendous project, but Cam Newton is probably the most overhyped player ever. The biggest differences between Newton and Kaepernick is that Kaepernick is much smarter, has better character, and has some experience with progression reads.

Perhaps three years away from starting in the NFL as in he'll start in that third year. His upside is enormous I suppose but the amount of work to be done is just way too much. Still that size, speed package is the closest thing to Newton outside of picking Newton. Late first round and then draft a guard with a trade down pick, that's not such a bad idea. You don't find that kind of ability in a quarterback with some ability to actually play the position. That release is disgusting, but the kid's head is in the right spot to do it.
