Looks like it's official. Famitsu confirms Chrono Trigger DS for a winter 2008 release in Japan. Guess it'll be out here around this time next year, maybe around August/September. I'm a little wary of the DS' ability to show off Akira Toriyama's character designs with anything resembling attractiveness. It'll be hard to look at this game on the DS after the greatness that was Dragon Quest VIII.
That's probably right. Recently, Square has been liking to re-hash their older games with a snazzy new 3D look.
I just wish they could of gone the ps3 route or ps2 route. Or a downloadable from the ps store, or something so I can buy and play this game without having to look at a little tiny screen. I am an adult who doesn't ride the bus, I do not need hand helds. I have a huge tv.
Confirmed: it's a straight port of the SNES version with touch controls and a bonus dungeon. No graphical update here, meaning they could have done this on the GBA. PASS.
No need, I have the original SNES cart, which legally entitles me to play the game via emulation. The game looks amazing in HQ4X.
That's why I'm pissed off with it; Square-Enix had a great chance to bring the game into the modern era with a full-on remake. Instead they kind of shrugged their shoulders and did a quick and meaningless port. It's like they're giving us table scraps.
I wish they would just do what the Chrono Resurrection Project was in the middle of doing. That looks awesome, ds chrono sounds like they are ripping us off.
