    03/29/08 - Chris Williams, rSr, Vanderbilt, 6-6, 315 (DS#3 OT)
The NFL Draft is four weeks from today, and the Bears’ preparation has gone pretty much as expected. With glaring needs on the offensive line and a desire for competition at running back, the Bears have focused on those two areas in recent weeks. Since last month’s scouting combine in Indianapolis, general manager Jerry Angelo, coach Lovie Smith and their respective staffs have visited all manner of prospects on campus both privately and as part of a group of teams. The Bears own the 14th pick in the first round and have zeroed in on several offensive tackles who could be available at that spot. Smith put Boise State’s Ryan Clady through a private workout at the school, and the team plans to do the same with Vanderbilt’s Chris Williams next week. Before the private workout, the Bears saw Clady perform at Boise State’s Pro Day. Many other teams were in attendance as well. “Everyone, to a man, said he blew them away,” Clady’s agent, Pat Dye Jr., said. “Quick hands. Quick feet. That’s what you look for in a great pass blocker.” If Clady is off the board when the Bears pick, Williams could be the next best option. Either player would have a chance to be a long-term solution at left tackle. - Nick Hut, Kane County Chronicle
