We get it, you don't like Ireland. Anyway about the article, I don't like Perkins as a writer and like him even less now that he says Sherman should stay.
Stopped reading after he said Sherman should stay... It's clear he didn't watch a single game this year...
It's pretty clear that he DID watch the games, because he sees the problems with the offense are because of talent issues, not scheme issues. The best way to make a good coach a bad one is to give him poor talent to work with. You want to make Gus Malzahn look like a bad coach? Pair him with Jeff Ireland. It won't take long before Jeff Ireland makes him look bad.
He doesn't outline what two starters (unless I missed it and I don't think I did). I'm sure he means Wheeler and Ellerbe, but the reader shouldn't have to infer, especially when we have a handful of defensive starters heading to FA.
That should be self explanatory, but I will take it further. Koa Misi is not a starter on a good team. On a good team, Olivier Vernon is a 3rd down pass rushing specialist that is moved around the formation. He is a liability against the run on 1st and 2nd downs. On a good team, Nolan Carroll is a 3rd or 4th cornerback.
Besides their OL which admittedly has to get better, this offense isn't lacking in talent.....There were definite scheme issues.... I agree on Ireland....
First he says the o-line coach and half the o-line needs to go, then blames Miller for not being a starting RB. Idiot.
Yes, the offense lacks talent. Brian Hartline isn't a special player. Mike Wallace is a one trick pony. Charles Clay is ideally a back up TE/FB hybrid player that is not good enough in either role to be a long term starter. The running backs are poor after contact and can't block to save their lives.
Perkins is ok but that man asks the worst questions. "Joe, you guys seem to give up big plays in crunch time, would you say that's a bad thing?"
Mike Sherman exacerbated problems that this offense had instead of mitigated them. He took situations in which good coaches would find workable and made them disasters. I wrote out a big long list of things that were ****ed up in this offense from a coaching standpoint in Club Level and your main contention was that Pouncey pulled more than I allowed.
I agree that Sherman was dealt a weak hand but I can't honestly say I saw any adjustments to help hide the deficiencies.
You had 2 WR's who combined avg'd just shy of 1000 yards AND had bad years to boot. Clay say what you want about being ideal, fact is he was a top 10 tight end in all of football this year. I agree on the RB's but even as piss poor as they were they still avg'd 3.85 per carry behind factually one of the worst OL's in recent memory. RT is a developing QB, good on somethings, bad on others. Point is there is talent there, can it be better? Absolutely, that's why there is an offseason, however to sit there and blame talent solely isn't the answer either...A better scheme and a few more pieces and this offense takes off PROVIDED RT17 doesn't regress, that is the key... You know who "lacks" talent on offensive for example? Jacksonville.... Lastly do you blame lack of talent or scheme on why the defense played average this year?
I've already detailed that. This defense is not nearly as talented as many of you want to believe. We have three substandard linebackers starting. We have a hodgepodge secondary that is pieced together at this point. The fact that this defensive staff was able to have a top rated pass defense out of this group shows that they at least know what they are doing from that standpoint.
The answer is obvious. Fire the guy responsible for mediocre seasons(you are who the record says you are). Let the new GM evaluate the coaching staff. Why do we insist on keeping a GM who is neither good at evaluating talent, handling the draft/FA, has poor PR with the media, fans, and most importantly, the football community itself(coaches, players, scouts, agents) who aren't going to want to come here and work/play for this team. You want to be a welcoming team, not a hostile team. Look at the Miami Heat, players want to play for the team because of the culture Pat Riley has instilled. Same goes for teams like the Patriots, Steelers, Seahawks, 49ers. You want players to want to come here. But Ireland's openly hostile approach to the rest of the league is a huge problem IMO. He is forefront of the Dolphins public persona and the projector of the teams culture to the rest of the league. I think there's some weight in Ryan Clark(and others) who bashed Ireland and the team during past FA periods. This must chamge.
When your offensive line can't pass block or run block, that is a disaster. The decisions made after that point are damage control. I don't know if Sherman is the answer or not. After playing OL in HS and college, I know that if your offensive line can't block, your offense is going to struggle no matter what you do. If you add to that problem with poor running backs that can't run or block, that makes things even worse.
Im actually unsure if out line is as bad as it looked talent wise. Dont get me wrong...its not a deeply talented unit. However I've seen teams do more with less. Its part coaching. We need a new offensive line coach at the VERY least
Our offensive line's pass blocking efficiency per PFF is better than three teams in the playoffs, and the teams overall yards per carry was almost exactly average. Mike Sherman is a bona fide peckerwood and ****ed this **** up nine ways from Sunday. He took a mediocre offensive line and made it look like an absolute tire fire. He's Mike Martz in disguise at this point.
I don't think Hartline is good enough to be a #2, I don't think miller is good enough...I don't think our 2nd tight end is going to be good enough..I don't think four of our oline are good enough..I don't think our third down back is good enough, I don't think our full time returner is good enough..
I don't think this offense uses "third down backs" as you're calling it. So it'd be tough to have one that's good enough IMO.
LOL with this crap still. I remember when you also tried to sell us that he had stone hands. Funny, of the 56 receivers targeted 80+ times, Wallace had the 8th lowest drop rate at 2.1%.
That's surprising. Because I was on page with getting Wallace. And believe he had a huge impact on our offense in a couple different ways. But there were many times where I would remark to myself about his hands of stone.
He's not a natural catcher of the football, he wants to cradle everything instead of snatching the ball out of the air. I hate that ish...
LMAO. Sherman fired today. I guess that "its not the scheme" theory took a hit eh? Or is it Philbin who isn't watching the games?
righhhht it's allll coaching that got them ranked 5th in Passer Rating w/ an impressive 77.3... 3rd in passing TDs allowed.. and 10th in INTs. I have absolutely no respect for anyone with such an agenda that they'll go so far as dismissing Brent Grimes' ability and performance in order to make it seem like it's all about coaching and nothing about the guys on the field. Michael Thomas says hi BTW.... you know- the guy who didn't even know the coverage before stepping foot on the field against Brady. Miami's run D says hi too. 24th in YPG and 18th in YPC....... after being 3rd in YPG and 3rd in YPC before Coyle arrived.
Dion Jordan waves hi. Nolan Carroll was our 3rd or 4th corner. And I hate to break it to you but the reason Vernon was starting and Miami was a liability against the run on 1st & 2nd down at RDE was because COYLE STARTED HIM THERE!! LOL. Coyle cared more about pressure & blitzing than he did about stopping the run. He could've started Odrick in 4-3 Under fronts that would've also gotten Starks on the field at DT and left Vernon with more of a situational pass rushing role, but he CHOSE not to, and it sure as sh-t wasn't because of the talent available to him. Furthermore, Koa Misi is a very good 2-down LB. I'm not sure the stats this year but last year he graded out as a top 10 OLB per ProFootballFocus and would not be a detriment to any good NFL team as a starter in their base package. I know he was damn solid at the end of the year when healthy. Regardless, Coyle had the draft's #3 OVERALL PICK at his disposal that he could've given more action to at LB and/or DE, but I guess that Dion Jordan guy is a talentless bum too, eh? I seem to recall the Ravens winning a SB with Ellerbe as a starting ILB.
Yea this is his proof copy. He didn't know the names of the LB's he was referring to. Just meerly re-reporting other writers stuff making it his own. Chris Perkins simply forgot to look up who they were and fix his typo before it went to "print"
