He's in the Xavier Rhodes size category and has quick feet, looks good blitzing. You can see him going up against Cordarelle Patterson on some plays in the first clip for a relative gauge, he looks pretty good. I'm new to him, but an interesting CB prospect imo, especially if you want a good sized CB for some bump and run and strength at the position. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oYC9wr_Nlk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZOj305GUkY
Interesting, but Commings doesn't look any slower or less quick than Rhodes imo, at least at first glance. I'm curious to see how both run at the combine, 40s and shuttles.
Nice pick against Alabama: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s26atcoVQlM Highlight tape below, the real film starts at :43 with one heck of a pic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUMf1-grkO4 I like the read/react and acceleration at 1:43- heads up and nice burst. I like this guy, shows promise to me. Here's more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaJKIgLt6lU
Picked off a pass against Cordarrelle Patterson if I'm not mistaken. Patterson was eating Branden Smith up alive so they switched Commings to him in the 1st half.
He shows some pretty good wheels here at 2:40: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oYC9wr_Nlk Just my guess, especially because I'm new to this guy, but I could see him playing CB.
It's not that he can't play it. Just think he's a better S. Not everyone moved from CB to S is bad at CB.
Which position he plays will depend on who drafts him. If they want press corners, he'll likely play corner. If not, then he'd be a safety. The reason Brandon Browner wasn't drafted IMO was because most teams couldn't decide if he was an NFL safety or corner. Strong safety body type but press corner skills.
Sounds like a pretty good combo to me, reminiscent of Xavier Rhodes in that regard. I like Commings and brandon McGee as mid round possibilities, not a bad way to go if we veer from CB early.
