The Canes and Gators are bitter rivals even tho they don't play often anymore. A lot of the recruits know each other from high school and being recruited together which make it that much more heated. Everyone wants to prove that they are the top dog in the state. Since these teams don't play often it means winning is even more important when they do play. While the Gators look like a much better team at this point I would not count out the Canes. Not too long ago the Gators were in almost the same situation. Young team on the road v.s. a top 5 team. The Gators ended up losing, But they gave the Canes everthing they could handle. You could see the same fire from the Canes this time. Too young to care how important this game is and too much pride to lay down. Canes Keys to Winning 1. Establish the running game! Get the gators defense tired and creeping up to the line. Hawaii had decent success at the start of the game and only got in trouble when they started to pass. 2. Limit turnovers This is always an important stat, but you don't want to give a great offense like Florida another shot. 3. Blitz Tebow! You have to blitz Tebow. Don't give him a chance to find his speedy wideouts. Mix up Blitz packages with LB's and S's. 4. Play action pass The Gators may need to bring an extra guy in the box or the corners may have their eyes in the backfield too long. You have to take your shots downfield. Gators Keys to Winning 1. Be Special They do every aspect of special teams well and need to continue that. It might be a Block kick or big return, But the Gators need to be great on special teams. 2. Stop the run The hurricanes don't make it a big secret of what they are going to do. They are going to run behind that huge offensive line. 3. Block Well Give Tebow time to throw the ball and he will kill a defense. Open a hole for a RB or Tebow in short yardage. 4. Speed Kills Use the speed of the WR's and RB's to our advantage. Use Misdirection plays to burn them when they over pursue.
And we have since 1985. Saturday may bring an end to that streak or it may not. I know all Croc fans thought they had a victory leading by 23 in 2003 only to see defeat rise in front of them. Of course if UiF hadn't of stopped scheduling us that streak probably could have been broken in the mid 90's
The 1985 thing is a bit misleading. Its only been the last 5-6 meetings. But yeah, Florida needs to step up. That 2003 game was a disaster that most UF fans would like to forget and attribute to poor coaching. Saturday cant come soon enough.
lol Ron Zook poor coach ummm that's an understatment. Great recruiter tho. It also did not help that our starting QB left the game with a concussion. Ingle Martin was a very solid QB
I think turnovers will be a big part of the game .Keep Moody on the sidelines please. He is a fumble machine. Cane fans sound like a broken record. Its about time to shut them up. As far as rivalries go The Gators may be the Canes most hated opponent but the Canes are not the Gators most hated opponent. They have to stand in line behind FSU, Tenn,Georgia and perhaps a couple of other SEC teams Actually I dont like it when they play each other because the Canes are my second favorite team.
I ll explain it again bro.I grew up in South Florida as a Canes fan before they became a big time team. After I got out of Navy I went to the UF for six years where I use to get free tickets to the games and I became a Gator fan . I am going to be rooting for the Gators but also I root for the Canes when they are not playing each other.
not any more.. it stopped when giveum hell pell got tired of losing every year and all we were left with was the girlie school. Some of us older guys recall the 60's and 70's when all of Dade county lined up on one side or the other, but that has been lost for the time being. I'm sure getting whopped good will help refresh the old fires... I have been resisting this thread.. all I can think of when I read the title is "hand grenades" that's the key, give us those and we will win....
I guess that make sense. I mean, I love my Canes, feel indifferent towards the Gators except when we play them. Hate spews out of every pore in my body when we play the Gators. I'll just never understand how one can root for both. Although, now that Little Nick is at Alabama, I'll root for the Gators anytime they play that ******* til the day I die.
Man, I hope we could pull a win out of this. I don't expect it though. For what its worth, the Gators don't know what to expect from Marve. They looked at his high school tapes to prepare for him but the Gators defensive line coach says he doesn't know to defend Marve until a few series into the game. They are also preparing for Jacory Harris. In this article, Shannon talks about how to defend the Gators offense. He says that the defense has to stop his weapons more-so than Tebow. The article talks about the Gators losses, they fail to control the clock late in the game.
Canes are going to blow you out tomorrow. Why? We're Miami and you're not and thats good enough for me. Seriously though good luck.
So... you can be bought... for free? I think the Canes stand a decent chance if they can be physical not just with Tebow, but with everyone. Bump the receivers around and hit them immediately as they catch; make them think twice about going up for that jump ball. Run the ball left, right, straight up the gut and outside to the edges. Get the play action going and bull rush the safety out of the way. The thing about this Canes team is, it's loaded with players who don't know why they're "supposed" to lose this game. (Kind of like our Fins, now that I think of it.)
This game should not even be close. Any QB making his Debut in the Swamp can't be easy. Meyer wants to make a statement in this game to the kids of S. FL
Its called a new coach with a completely different offensive system. If Michigan had a real QB Utah would've been blownout. Give it two years and Michigan will be back on top losing no more than 2 games a season. Miami? Well, they'll continue to watch their players get arrested and shot. Thug life!
Lol I accidently thanked your post, but it's okay because you're a good guy. Now what I really wanted to say: Big talk from a guy whos team hasn't beaten us in how long?
Humble pie will be served at 8 pm sharp. Exactly, these two teams are clearly at different points right now. This will be a statement game. Much different teams this time around.
did I mention hand grenades.... frags.. no sissy concussion jobs, I want carnage. Alex, you can "unthank" someone as well as "thank" them. sigh.. you are prolly correct Derek...
If I didn't like Skeet I'd unthank him haha but it's okay. It doesn't matter which team looks better on paper, it's a rivalry game and that means anything goes. Especially in college football.
No one's talking about who looks better on paper, we're talking talent on the field. We have the longest winning streak in this rivalry and we'll keep it by ending yours tonight.
I can't wait for the game tonight. Going to Miami tonight for the Phins game tomorrow however I will be very decked out in Gators stuff tonight! I love this rivalary sooo much. Can't wait to see the game tonight. P.S. Alex I will thank you back when I get off the cell and on a comp. lol
longest streak... yea, I guess I'd wanna forget the thrashing put on you by Meeeeshigan .. the team that lost to App State..too if I were a crocagator fan
You can say that again. I actually like the Gators when we aren't playing eachother. The only team I can't stand is FSU. Thats the only real bad blood.
6 point loss, quite the thrashing. That has what to do with this game again? Running short on material?
Yes, but then again everyones material on the Canes has to do with jail, so there isn't much originality left anyway.
You really wanna bring up last season? As a Canes fan I would have filed last season away immediately after that final Orange Bowl game.
This was pretty tasteless considering the events that have occurred in Miami involving current and former Hurricanes. Pathetic bro.
