Grier took his kid's buddy and it backfired in disastrous fashion. He is the problem and needs to go.
Wasn’t he our first pick in that particular draft? Maybe Fangio wasn’t the problem with Smith. Smith himself was the problem.
Seriously, I doubt there is another player that Grier has ever "scouted" as thoroughly as this kid and he was a complete and total bust. Just absolutely ridiculous stuff.
153 total defensive snaps played. Not even on the field enough for us to hate him due to how horrible he was, because he couldn't beat out UDFA/PS guys to get there.
Someone needs to take the keys away from Grier. He’s like a drunk driver who has been driving this franchise deeper and deeper into a giant stink hole and we as phin fans are like the friends at a party who are trying to prevent him from driving. “No man, give me your keys. You can’t drive. You’re ----ing drunk”. …and then we end up getting in the car with him anyway because he’s our only ride home. That’s the current state of being a phin fan.
I can't explain why, but Ross seems completely attached to him. After Grier was given a job as a scout by his dad with the Patriots (with no other qualifications), he was then immediately given that same job by the Dolphins (Wanny/Jimmy) when the elder Grier was fired by the Patriots in their regime change from Carroll to Belichick. Then in the middle of the mess between Wanny and Rick Speilman, Grier somehow weasled his way into becoming the Dolphins Assistant Director of College Scouting, despite that whole operation doing a horrible job from 2000-2002 after he'd joined the team. Then in his team in that role from 2003-2007, again its mostly a complete disaster, culminating in the drafting of Ted Ginn at #7 overall in 2007. It just got worse the entire time towards the handoff of the team from Huizenga to Ross. The whole operation should have been cleaned out at that point. But...somehow....Grier returned and gained more authority. He became the Director of College Scouting, a position he held from 2007-2015, through the various disasters of the Cameron, Sparano and Philbin regimes when the draft was just one bad turn after the next. He did nothing that seems worthy of keeping that position, and yet..... He was then promoted to General Manager in 2016, a position he's retained ever since, despite the lack of success that the team has had the entire time. And, he promotes and retains guys from within the team who have never known working for any other NFL org. Adam Engroff is our co-director of player personnel. He's been with the Dolphins 27 years. Never worked for another NFL team. Anthony Hunt is the other co-director of player personnel. Been with Miami for 32 years. Never worked for another NFL team. Clearly, they've done excellent work, right? Building all of those powerhouse Dolphins teams since then? Matt Winston is the Dolphins Director of College Scouting. He's been with the Dolphins for 18 years. Spent one year with the Texans as an intern before that. Certainly, the draft has been just awesome with him working under Grier in that role, right? Ron Brockington is the Senior Scout. 20 years with Miami. Where was he before that? The Jets of course, where he worked for our old buddy Tannenbaum. The team Ross was actually a fan of before he bought the Fins. These are the people running the operation, bringing in the players for the team. These are their credentials. Its obvious that nothing is going to change until Ross isn't the one at the top any more, and that we can only hope that change does eventually come when he's gone.
