Great show. Omar is on my list of 3 favorite fictional TV characters ever, accompanied by Ari Gold and Red Foreman.
1,2,3,5,4 for me. 1. The "****" cold case murder investigation scene with Bunk and McNulty (Avon's dead gf apartment). Omar's partner's murder. The trial. Wallace's shooting. 2. The sad scenes with Frank seeing Ziggy in jail and then finally going to see the Greek. D'Angelo murder. The first Omar/Muzone showdown. 3. Avon/Stringer betraying each other simultaneously. Omar-Muzone last showdown and Stringer Bell death. Hamsterdam. Spoiler 5. All the loose ends tied. All remains the same with the sole glimmer of hope in Bubbles' ascension to sobriety. Not to forget Omar, Butchie, and Prop Joe's deaths. 4. Bunk helping Omar out of jail after his having been framed. Prez as a school teacher. The middleschoolers' awful lot in life. The lazy writing around Marlo Stanfield character and his rise to power takes this season down a peg imo. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4 Upon further review. I'm sticking to the above.
Same here about Chris. An oddly human cold-blooded killer who was likely molested as a child. Snoop though was just bat**** crazy throughout. With the exception of the hardware store scene, and her final talk with Michael. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
She was annoying as **** but similar to Omar in that she completely defied a lot of stereotypes. Chris was great though, I wish he got more shine. Marlo wouldn't of been **** without those two.
Stringer was a great character. He was a drug kingpin that ended up being undone by a bigger criminal (Clay Davis) when he tried to go into a legit business (real estate development). The scenes of him going to college and McNulty finding out are some of the best. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
My thoughts exactly. I don't understand people saying the 2nd season was the worst when the 4th season exists.
The only season I really disliked was the newspaper season. The school season was unpleasant because I hate kids. The docks season was slow at first, but ended up being pretty good. At the time, who knew Idris Elba was such a powerhouse actor? Especially given that he has the worst cockney accent, yet pulled off the urbanspeak flawlessly. Honestly, I think without Elba what you had was an ambitious show with ambitious concepts that fell short a lot for a series that only lasted five years. Plus—seriously, grievously lacking in the babe factor.
Gotta admit, I didn't care much for the lying columnist storyline. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
I found the parallels between Stringer and Sgt. Colvin fascinating. Both tried to shake things up against all convention and both could have been pioneers. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
Those two were more engaging in their screen time than anything the writers really did for Marlo. Found myself hanging on Chris and Snoop's every word. Can't say the same for Marlo. Also, Marlo was meant to come off as a feared sociopath, but this failed massively with me; the actor that played him (monotone and consistently blank expressions notwithstanding) didn't seem threatening in the least. Ya but Gus was a good character at least. And you need that storyline to play off what they do w McNulty.
Probably the most honorable character in the show given what he did for a living. Shutting Cheese up, alone, was great. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
The guy who shot his car? I guess he did do better as a teacher. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
You know, on a given day, this could be my order too. I just finished season 5, on a 5 episode marathon last night. Still letting it sink in. Season 5, belief needed to be suspended the most. Contrary to other opinions, I agree with you as far as season 4 being the weakest. I understand tying in all aspects of Bmore, but the political and school storylines just made for the least interesting tv watching. To me it's a tired subject, but I understand their need though, and it was good tv none the less. Except for anything Clay Davis. He was great TV. I need a sheeeeeeeeeeeit ringtone. Awesome show.
LOL For a while it was my incoming text message alert. I'd be sitting in an silent auditorium, and it'd go off all the time. SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIT.
Going back to my original post, having watched this entire show in less than a month, I think Stringer Bell comes across a bit flawed and weak, as was the shows intention. Without years for him to marinate as a viewer, I think that could be the difference. But in season 2 and 3, he struggled on the street, and got outsmarted. Just my opinion. Awesomely acted character and a nice part of the story.
Oh, and one criticism. I liked McNulty overall, but he really struggled with his performance acting drunk.
That was an awesome scene, when he tried to hit the turn again...but he struggled with his slurring and body language.
That's not what I meant. His slurring and body language was poorly acted. Sometimes he would just be lazy eyed and couldn't slur at all in the early scenes. And his sex scene in season 1 with Ronda was the worst I had ever seen. The sex scene with Greggs, though short, may have been one of the best.
Drunk Bunk > Drunk McNulty. The scene where Bunk wanted to burn his clothes on the toilet after cheating on his wife was damn gold.
That **** was hilarious. Drunk Lester Freeman > everyone Surprised nobody mentioned him before now, he was one of the best characters on there.
Freeman was a beast from day one. And a mack daddy too. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
