apparently, revenge is a dish best served with a roofie and a sharp knife. When they are that emotionally tied and fired up, it can be difficult to just leave. common sense has nothing to do with it.
Obviously, I have no idea why she believes "he deserved it", but short of 'he wouldn't let her leave and was threatening to kill her or her family/friends', I have trouble coming up with any reason that justifies her actions. Even then if somebody is trying to kill me then I would kill them. I don't see the justification for mutilation.
