Your clear implication was that Ronnie Brown did not 'earn' the opportunity to get a handful of yards in the last game and get that incentive. It was a very clear implication. No distortion was needed. We're talking about a six word post. I'm not sure what kind of analysis you were looking for here.
7 words, but who's counting. Except you apparently...incorrectly. What I said was a statement of fact. Ronnie Brown did not EARN his incentive. If he did we wouldn't even be having this conversation. You say you don't know "what kind of analysis you were looking for." I dunno, you apparently read a lot more into what I posted than what was there. You just want it to say what you want it to say in an attempt to discredit me. That's fine. But again, what I said was a statement of fact. So, I revert to my previous statement, It's disheartening seeing people putting words in other people's mouths and distorting points they make to prove their own flawed point.
It was a completely generic statement. We are all completely aware that he didn't EARN the amount of yardage required for his incentive. We also all know what incentives are without your definition about them. The discussion was centered around whether Tony should have given him something closer to his normal workload in the final game. Whether or not it was a dick move. Instead of six carries only. In the game before he got 12 carries. 18 carries in two games to 'earn' an incentive.
I agree its unfair, and yeah it is ridiculous, but if it were your business and an employee was about to achieve a rather large bonus for doing something that did nothing to help your business (like gaining 50 yds against the pats) would you still pay him with a smile on your face? I guess to make the analogy complete, your business would have to be doing somewhat poorly, and youd be paying a member of your staff a huge bonus when the business isnt doing well. From a business standpoint, if you have a way to not pay that guy, your not going to pay him.
''Bush will be out with an injury by mid season'' Rilla ??..what kind of skills are we dealing with here??, is this person psychic or what?
MODS: When a "fan" continually posts this kind of crap that is resoundingly rejected and blasted by the majority of the board...then isn't it time to rethink that person's membership to this site? Especially when they're practically wishing a member of this team to be injured? There's a reason this site isn't Finheaven, and its because we have better posters overall and an atmosphere that encourages rational discussion (ok, ok, not including the PoFo, of which I'm one of the worst offenders.) Still, people like the OP would be allowed to post and post until their heart is content, all the while bringing the "property value" down of that site. Its why so many of us chose this site in the beginning rift. And now it feels like a similar contingent growing here. Again, overly negative or positive posts are one thing, but wishing injury on players while being continually combative is detrimental to the site overall.
Ronnie Brown wanted to play for Philly. Ricky is different, Phins didn't offer. And Ricky has looked better than Ronnie through preseason and week 1. Can't imagine LJ being better than Ricky this year, but we'll see. People have a right to be worried about our backs though. Bush hasn't proven he can stay healthy (I think/hope he will this year though), and we know nothing about Thomas and Hilliard, and have no clue if LJ can still do anything. Plus there are O-Line questions.
"Reports have surfaced" Translation.... rumors and unsubstantiated ones at that. Brown specifically mentioned wanting to come back. If they wanted him he'd be here. I'm not even going to get into the R. Williams situation which could have been retained dirt cheap. Instead they were trying to be cute. They thought they'd have a decent option to bring in with all the FA RB's. They drew out the process, pissed Brown off and got left with having to bring in a retired RB for a tryout and had to sign Larry Johnson who has played a total of 16 games the last 3 years. As for Bush, I've been vocal about that move since it happened. To think this guy is all of a sudden going to turn into an every down back is folly. I'm not a fan of someone posting that he predicts a player will be injured at some point but if you look at Bush's history it's a pretty good bet. People want to defend the FO on moves that's fine but the RB situation isn't a defendable one. The way they handled the OL situation is just as puzzling IMO.
Oh we will get to "deal with it". We now get to watch a 3rd down back made of thinner glass try and fill a featured TB role. LOL.
Some of you still miss the point altogether. It's not about Ronnie Brown per say. It's about a team being responsible with their personnel management and realizing that in this league.... ESPECIALLY if you continually talk about wanting to be a dominant running team..... that you have a RB that has proven some level of talent that you can rely on. Brown never played like a first rounder but he was far from inadequate. He is a much better bet than an oft injured 3rd down back and a completely unproven rookie. If they didnt sign Brown and went after another FA I don't think anyone would have cared. It's about manning the position with someone reliable. They FAILED.
They haven't failed. They may have failed, but it's too early to say that the people manning the position are unreliable. I know you have called Bush oft-injured, yet he's played in just 1 less game than Ronnie over the past 5 years. I'd say both are oft-injured personally. I also can't remember any time this offseason or preseason where Sparano has talked about trying to be a dominant running team. Not saying he hasn't, just everything I recall is about opening it up more, and putting more speed out there. And as to a previous post you had, either your math or your reading comprehension skills need a slight refresher. In the past 3 seasons Larry Johnson has played in 28 games, not 16.
Seems like a preemptive attack to lower our expectations, while simultaneously giving the Phins fuel for their "us against the world mentality"...Or he could just be crapping in the punchbowl just to say later, "See, I was right". It doesn't take a psychic to say a scatback will get injured by mid-season. Especially one with an injury history. But who cares, right? ... Reg-gie! Reg-gie! Reg-gie!
First off it's not that simple. Bush has been injured being useed primarily as a pass catcher and 3rd down back NOT as a featured back. The wear and tear of his role compared to a featured back like Brown running between the tackles is not comparable. Which by the way is what this illustrious management crew is now expecting of him. AT THE LEAST, they did not improve this aspect of the position. Secondly, People have complained about Brown's durability yet here people are defending the acquisition of Bush? Puzzling thought process to say the least. Is the proposed arguement that Bush is injured as often as Brown a positive for the acquisition? Are you really going to go here? Sparano has talked consistently since he's been here what his philosophy is. He wants to be a tough grind it out team that can punish opponents on the ground. Yes, thankfully, he's talked about opening it up more but his core philosophy has always been to be a team that can run and grind it out. This is nothing new. Even if they do want to open up the passing game more it's no excuse to neglect the RB position. Any way you slice it, a 3rd down back and an unproven rookie at the position is very poor planning. I did misread the games played stats on NFL.com. They have 2009 split making it look like 2 seperate years. Thanks for the knock on my reading comprehension. Much appreciated. Regardless of Johnson's games played the past 3 years, people are clamouring about how dissapointed they are in Brown and Williams while stating it was no loss that they weren't resigned YET everyone is seems content that bringing in Larry Johnson who has CLEARLY been less effective over each of the past 3 seasons is somehow on upgrade. Again, if anything, we weakened the position so how some of you are so happy with their moves here is a mystery to me.
Yeah like the Miami Dolphins did not treat him right by picking him with the second pick in the draft. Then giving him a huge signing bonus to go along with a fat contract? Only to see him fail to live up the the expectations. Miami paid a barely above average running back top running back money for his entire contract but yet it's Miami's fault he didn't reach his final incentive. Now that I don't buy. Sorry
Although I agree that Bush's physique and injury history indicates a high possibility that he will indeed be injured before the season is done, I just don't see the point of starting a thread like this here.
Bush is ready to take a pounding IMO. Daboll should be going for more stretch and maybe going deep with Bush though.
Ronnie Brown was a slow dancing injury prone running back. If not for the wild cat year would have been considered as just of big as a bust as Ted Ginn. Ricky trashed the team with comments after the season and was not productive enough to keep and put up with that crap. Neither fit into the faster more mobile RB that we need on the team with this offense.
5 screen passes a game to Bush, and hope he breaks one for a TD. Much more useful than sending him up the middle of our yet-to-be solidified interior OL. This is all on Daboll, can you utilize a talent like Bush? No way Henning could, time to step up Brian.
