Wildlife photographer Don Jones was in the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park at dawn last January when he saw this 6-point bull elk standing in a creek with three wolves watching from the bank. check out the 19 pictures...great to see a bull out do wolfs Field & Stream - Bull Elk Takes On a Wolf Pack
Sometimes wolf populations become too large and become a pain to farmers and communities, actually wandering into peoples backyards. and sometimes they change their name one too many times and you just have to let them have it.
If you were a rancher and seen what they can do to young calves you wouldn't ask why. like2god nailed it, over population. The deer and elk counts are down due to the wolf. Not only do they kill the old and sick, they also get more than their share of the elk calves and deer fawns.
Isnt that what all dogs love to do? Anyway had he kept an eye on the Elk they would have tried again. Its intresting to see how these animals plan their hunts.
same thing happens with mountain lions. I found out just a few days ago we now have wolverines here in calif. Wolverines in California, Department of Fish and Game
