Yep, for a guy who is on his third team in 2 yrs, he should want it more. Tiquan Underwood easily outplayed him, that is a wake up call for the Omark's of the world, or should be.
Trusnik outplayed Dansby...it happens. Point is, just because CJ talks confidently to the media shouldnt mean he has to do more than anyone normally would have to do to win a roster spot.
Could care less what he says to the media, he is not acting like a Vet Wr on his 3rd team in 3 yrs. That to me is the bottom line
Guys are willing to cut CJ after dropping one pass, which is hysterical to me. I'm never disappointed when I read these game threads. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Someone (not a fan) on the sidelines who was extremely turned off by Chad's body language and reaction as he came off that drop.
so as you heard on hard knocks chad johnson has a very good camp, he looked good out there in practice and based on one drop in the first preseason game he is gone ? and how do you compare underwood he played like 15 snaps more
Seriously man....just let it go. He ran a beautiful route at full speed and you could see in his break that he wants it pretty damn bad. So what he dropped one pass. Let it become an issue before we skewer him and roast him over an open flame.
The pregame discussion is generally ok, but after that it is like an effort in self flagellation to read some of the remarks that are made while the game is ongoing.
Not trying to make it to be more than it is, but just because you only hear from one person, doesn't mean only one person has that opinion. Plus if it were just one person, if that one person were Joe Philbin, that'd be a pretty big strike.
As many of you know, I'm a big CFL fan, and a fan of Wally Buono, his approach to this sort of thing is the veteran has to perform as well as the younger Wr, and they have to do so consistently. If they do not, then they are waived no matter who it is. Buono is something like the Don Shula of the CFL, so for me it is a sound policy. And I do enjoy having Johnson on a rather drab team, the reality is he should have more expected of him.
More is expected of him. The difference is that some of us aren't kicking him off the team based on one play in the first preseason game.
No, more is not expected of him. I'd have thought we'd learned or Dolfans lesson after watching Marshall drop pass after pass, apparently not.
I doubt the guy(s) he was speaking with after the game was Philbin, but if it was, then yeah I agree it carries a lot of weight.
From everything we know and have seen , personally I would be disappointed if we kept Chad and cut Wallace , honestly I would be. Now if 85 produces in the next 2/3 games and Wallace doesn't we can revisit that , but Chad doesn't block , doesn't play special teams and if he doesn't produce at an above average level and doesn't represent this team well, what would the reason be to keep him? Not set to cut him , but imo he needs to produce and do that consistently going forward or I take the younger , bigger , faster more versatile player that is producing.
I'm willing to bet Chad Johnson is the kind of guy who will drop a ball if he's extra needy of attention and he thinks it'll get it. And I would suspect that's a half-conscious, half-unconscious behavior on his part. The lack of "appropriate" reaction and body language following the drop may have been because part of him wanted to drop the ball. He's liable to get a lot more attention for dropping that ball than he would've gotten for catching it. The unnecessary "fall" on that play may have been part of the action as well.
I've never seen so much discussion over a guy who had only one pass thrown his way in a game, whether he made the catch or not. It's pretty ludicrous. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And that's part of my point. If he would've caught the ball, there would've been a whole lot less discussion about him, and some part of him knows that. That part of him may have wanted to drop the ball to get the attention, since it seems like attention from others is so important to him. It was a preseason game in which there was no way he was going to play enough to take over the game and get the headlines for that. The only way he could make sure to get significant attention was to drop an easy ball, which he did.
Jesus, that is ridiculous. You think a guy wants attention so badly that he would intentionally drop a pass to him, just so he could get raked over the coals for a week at least? Oh Kay Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
For people who desperately need attention, negative attention is better than no attention at all! The answer to your question is that I don't think either of us knows for sure, but of course you're free to have your own opinion. I don't know that I agree, but of course that doesn't mean you're wrong.
I've been agreeing with a lot of your opinions lately. More than ever. But man I think you are way off base on this one. Think of what may have happened had he made the catch. The offense stays on the field first of all. Matt Moore's history indicates he isn't averse to feeding the hot hand. This one catch could have led to 2-3 more on that drive, perhaps even a TD. Then the headlines and all the chat and tweets are about how Chad is back. He becomes the darling again.
I don't think one catch on a five-yard slant would've done all that for him in terms of attention. I think the drop did far more. But of course you could be right.
Not to be nitpicky, but had he caught it, the gain considering the room on the field and rac, would have been at least 12 yards. That catch alone, in of itself, is not what would have given him all the attention. It's that catch plus whatever else he did on the rest of that drive.
That was Chad Johnson's first target in a Miami Dolphins uniform. If it had been in the end zone, he could've gotten loads of attention for catching it. On a five-yard slant, the most attention was to be gained for dropping it IMO. This is a guy who is driven by his need for attention more than anything else in his life IMO, more than football, more than anything. I think that has to be factored in.
Okay, sure, the Dolphins signed him to a contract because they thought they'd get nothing out of him.
Not surprising. And with nice performances by some of the younger receivers the tolerance on that mouth to catch ratio will shrink more and more.
Eh, could gloat I suppose, but that is counterproductive. Suffice it to say, he wound up being waived anyway.
And misguided. unless you mistakenly believe his drop in the game had anything to do with his being cut.
