For those of us who have the NFL Network and got to see the game last night, we suffered through some of the worst coverage in pro sports. Bryant Gumbel is absolutely horrible. I lost count of how many times he referred to the Cowboys as the Packers. So while it's great to have the network, the games are nearly unwatchable.
He seemed very uninterested in the game as a whole, and yes he is a terrible commentator. He shows no gumption when he speaks. He's a good journalist....but terrible commentator.
Gumbel is absolutely horrible at his job, and I believe he even once said "I have no idea what I'm doing out there." I mean, come on, Rick Romo?
Gus Johnson, who did the last Dolphin game vs the Jets, is much more talented than Gumbel as a play by play announcer.
What the hell was NFL Network thinking when they hired Bryant Gumbell? I nearly fell asleep listening to him. He has to be the most monotonous boring announcer on football right now. Hell I have new respect for Mike Tirico and others now. I would rather have anyone but him.
My favorite to this point was "Rod-rick-uh Wright" by Bob Griese. But Rick Romo is much funnier. Bryant Gumbel sounds like he's narrating tiddlywinks. Simply bad casting by whoever is in charge at NFLN. He's better suited for his journalism stuff.
