Oh man. I just hope it wasn't a result of speeding, or driving under the influence of anything. Prayers out to both families.
Yeah, gotta give Stallworth the benefit of the doubt until the fact are known. At least he stopped and took responsibility for what happened by the sounds of it.
not very sensitive there eh? really though, can't see why someone would be crossing the causeway there. not that I live in Miami or anything but I've been there and I wouldn't want to cross that on foot, ever.
I read somewhere (sorry I can't post a link but I forgot where) that Mr. Reyes was on his way to work. He didn't own a car. Beyond sad....
wow, very sad.................. This happens down here alot, but thats mainly because people are crossing over illegally, and they have to cross one of our main highways. Either way I think its pretty sad.......
Uh oh... turns out Stallworth may have been drunk... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3997609
Breaking News: NFL suspends Stallworth without pay for season. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/12061208
Was at CBS Fantasy BB site, when news broke.... Maybe update the Thread Title to reflect suspension???
Good. I think its crazy that Stallworth gets less than a month of jail time for killing someone while drunk driving; but Plaxico is facing 3-15 years for possessing an unregistered firearm. Such a backwards system. At least Stallworth is being held accountable to some degree by the NFL.
If you simply look at it from "he was drunk - someone died" it is a lenient sentence but when you review all of the facts, Stallworth's drinking had little to nothing to do with the accident. The court even had video of the accident. I honestly think the NFL would havebeen better served showing some leniency towards Stallworth since he stayed at the scene of the crime, didn't refuse the sobriety test, had private meetings with the family and plead guilty. I realize what he did was horrible but the fact that he owned up to it should be used as an example to other players. Had he ran from police and tried to get out of this his punishment would have been the exact same.
if i tested legally drunk and killed someone under any circumstances with my vehicle, i would be in jail for years.
depends on the law. here in texas if you hit someone not on the crosswalk, then you probably will not be found guilty of murder more then likely just dui....
Thank you. And he isn't off with nothing. He is on house arrest for another 2 years, then 8 years of probation and 1,000 hours of community service. AND he can never drive in Florida again.
And the family is okay with all that. It's fair IMO. We may or not like the sentence, but if the family is okay with it, then I'm going to be okay with it. He was a man about it and showed it when he manned up to everything in this case, he never lied about anything.
I find the NFL statement inaccurate as well. While Donte should not have been drinking the test isn't drinking, someone dies, your life is over. Did the alcohol contribute to the accident, etc. What's just is just. Donte should not have been driving. Plain and simple. But you cannot control someone jumping out in front of your car. The NFL said an innocent man was killed, but from what I read a contributory negligent man was killed. That's how Donte got off fairly easy compared to what it could have been.
I think the reason people think in these cases the person faces hard jail time is often what happens is someone will hit a pedestrian, panic then leave. This now means they are faced with a mess of charges, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render aid, etc. So while they may be found not guilty of murder, they make it worse on themselves by not helping the person they just hit.
everyone knows two things: you never put the baby in the microwave & you don't drink & drive it's just about that simple
The NFL has a ride safe program. YOu call them and they make sure someone picks you up. I have no idea why any NFL player gets a DUI.
