Yikes, Just Some info on him i found, Daboll began his NFL coaching career with the New England Patriots as a defensive coaching assistant in 2000 before being promoted to wide receivers coach for the Patriots in 2002. After the 2006 season, he left the Patriots to serve as the Jets' quarterbacks coach. In 2009, Daboll joined Eric Mangini's staff in Cleveland as offensive coordinator.
Yeah, it’s not like Chudzinski did better with the same organization or anything like that… oh, wait.
Wow! This is fantastic! Cleveland's offense was ROCKIN'! I am so pumped. Daboll's offenses at Cleveland the past two seasons were ranked as high as 32nd and 29th in the nation! Only 15 and 8 slots, respectively, behind the Dolphins offense the past two seasons! That is SO Great! BRILLIANT Hire! And that 3 slot improvement from 32nd to 29th (especially with having to deal with Peyton Hillis on your team) - what can you say? Awesome. Just awesome.
I smell interim Head Coach Mike Nolan by Week 8. Our offense will be about as exciting as a big night of shuffleboard and bingo at the senior center.
So much for going out and getting a well known, big name to bring in and improve our offense. I don't know much about the guy, or any of our candidates really. I just hope we get some logical playcalling, and have someone now that is going to use players in positions to best help them succeed, instead of trying to force square pegs into round holes.
Well Teflon has been spot on in his coaching choices to date no? Granted Daboll was playing with half a deck in Cleveland, but what exactly has he done to make Tony think he can do better here?
Well his offense sucked but he's a Northeast guy that likes to fist pump.... The only thing that could make this any more ridiculous/bizarre is if Henning is now hired as OC of the Browns.... The Mangini/Daboll situation mirrors our situation other than we don't have anyone like Holmgren that is smart enough to also get rid of the HC as well. Sparano and Ireland were told that status quo wouldn't be acceptable....... guess they weren't listening.
Good News: He worked with Belichick for many years. Bad News: He was the Browns OC last year, which had a worse offense than Miami [but less talent as well]. Less yards, less points than Miami. Some reports say QB Coach instead of OC, which might be better.
Could be another reason we talked to Mangini. To get some info on him. I'll take the wait and see approach. The Browns didn't have a lot to work with on offense.
That was a mistake by Schefter, which he immediately corrected. Brian Daboll is the OC, not the QB coach. Immediately below us.
Well, before I bleed out, can anyone enlighten me as to the type of offense this guy runs and his eijwoeirjwerhewr...
Not sure what to think. The Browns offense sucked, but they did have Jake Delhomme starting for half the season and a rookie starting for the other half. I think they had 3 different starting QBs this year. Are we all going to act like Peyton Hillis didn't tear it up this year? I think Miami has a bit more talent then Cleveland as of now and if we can get some more solid players on offense, this may not be a terrible hire. Anything can be better than Henning, right? Henning turned us from a top 15-20 offense to the 31st ranked offense almost single handedly imo. I think West Coast? Maybe? idk
Mike Mularky=idiot w/ us and Suckpepper/Joey Harrington Mike Mularky=genius w/ Matt Ryan All depends on the QB!! Even Henning's system worked in '08 w/ a competent QB and o-line!
Don't get me wrong, not exactly buzzing w/ excitement over this choice, but I'm keeping an open mind.
Gentleman. Here are the SCARY FACTS ABOUT DABOLL Brian Daboll certainly wasn’t the biggest name that the Miami Dolphins interviewed for their open offensive coordinator job, but he’s the one who will get the gig. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Daboll — the former Browns offensive coordinator under Eric Mangini — should be formally named to the job later Monday or Tuesday. Former Vikings head coach Brad Childress met the Dolphins about the job, as did Cowboys tight end coach John Garrett. Chargers tight end coach Rob Chudzinski was believed to be the favorite for the job. Daboll was well regarded from his time in New England and then under Eric Mangini with the Jets and Browns. Still, his Cleveland teams were among the league’s worst in yards and points in both of his seasons there. There is more talent in Miami to work with than Cleveland, but this isn’t a hire that makes us think the Dolphins’ offensive philosophy will change that much www.pft.com
because i am bored at work, i visited several Browns boards to see what they have to say. 75% say good riddance, and are surprised by the fact he got a job with the Miami Dolphins, not Miami(OH). The other 25% said he did a good job with the talent he had. So that is just the Browns fans opinions. I didn't watch to many Browns games, so i will withhold my opinion to whenever the next Fins game might be.
We don't have a ton of talent either. He certainly didn't seem to elevate the Browns to play above their talent level. This upcoming season just stinks of impending doom. Maybe a lockout is the best we can hope for
Precisely the reason Sparano should have been the first to go, rather than try to appease the fans with scape goats. It should be no surprise that Sparano and company hired someone that had the same failed offensive philosophy as he does. God forbid we try to shake things up and try something new...
I second that. This is a direct consequence of what happened between Ross/Sparano/Ireland 2 weeks ago. I was hoping this would not come to this, but looks like its going to get worse before it gets better. Heres to drafting Andrew Luck in 2012!!
Oh crap!!! Bring in a guy who had a offense ranked worse than us I can hear the "we want Henning chant" starting already
Well I guess there's only one thing left to do...
Wow.... Over react anyone??? If he is the hire...why dont we wait and listen to what they plan on doing. Who knows what he plans on doing with this offense...and gee...if we judged Bill Belichick as a HC for his time in Cleveland. Relax....
The guy has had a lot of time around Belicheat, Saban, and Mangina. They ALL give him high praise. I won't knee-jerk about this and at least give him a chance before I call for his head. Then again, I'm rational.
This guy took Peyton Hillis, a 7th round pick who was the the 3rd best RB in his backfield in college and a wash out with the Broncos, and turned him into a super star behind a less talented offensive line than we currently have. Colt McCoy also looked like a competent QB running his offensive system. Give him a chance before you jump off a bridge.
