Break down Beck's play...

I didn't see anything that special in Beck tonight. OK game under horrible conditions. The fact remains that we haven't scored an offensive TD since Beck was named the starter..

and also haven't since cleo. cleo got some BS tds by running that donest mean we had an offeense. our offense has BEEN SHIITTT since green went down adn i think its b/c Cam doesnt trust our QB's cuz we dont call the same plays as we did before. our offense is horrible period. no play makers.

I don't think you can evaluate anything right now. To me he looked just as good as Big Ben, so can't fault him there. Also he seemed to be looking Ginn's way more than Cleo did, hopefully they will develop some chemistry.

With the conditions as bad as they were, the lack of a running game, and constant pressure from the Steelers, I thought he held up well under pressure. If it hadn't been for the slippery conditions I think he would have completed a few more passes and wouldn't have taken some of those sacks. For what he had at his disposal I think he did a good job.

Beck actually impressed me . . . . he looked MUCH more composed in the pocket today and he made better throws this week . . . he also flashed some good mobility and didnt force any throws . . . which is key in these conditions.

Next week, I think we will be able to make a FULL evaluation on John Beck . . . hopefully its after a win.

He's already too low with the delivery on many throws.

I saw a bit of that at BYU but it seems to be more pronounced now, and more sidearmed than it was in preseason.

I noticed that too and while you don't like to see a 6'2 QB throwing from a 3/4 arm slot, I only noticed it a few times and they were all on longer plays where he elevated the throw with little pressure in front of him. If he starts throwing in the middle of the field like that it could be a problem though. As far as his performance I though he did pretty good even though Cam restricted him. I don't think he misfired on one pass in the first half and suffered some drops. I would have liked to see the pass he threw to Ginn early that got dropped delivered earlier, but other than that I didn't find too many negatives. Obviously it is still hard to get any kind of real evaluation on him because of the conditions and limited playcalling. You would think we will get a better feel for him next week.

He does have a lower, but very quick throwing motion. His threw one further then any Dolphin QB has (Booker slipped). But his arm is not really strong, just strong enough.

He has great feet, he moves quickly and well, and he can run if need be. He went though 3 WR's at least 3 times and went to his 2nd a number of times. he looked long but they were covering long.

We know Ginn is a real WR and I guess our best one. Beck does not have great targets and our WR's have a fair amount of drops.

Next week should tell a lot. If it is a wonderful clear sunny day we will see if our WR's can go long and if Beck can hit them.

Hmm..the positives:

Better accuracy then last week, a bit mroe fearless, he was throwing in 2 WR sets only much of the game, smart and gutty, he was getting creamed on some plays and didn't get rattled.

The negatives: A bit too mechanical, there were times when he went through his progressions and didn't use the check down receiver, rushed some throws, poor clock management, he burned two timeouts that cost us, a bit of too much with the happy feet.

So far JB is not up to NFL gamepseed, he doesn't make the quickest decisions and when he tries he is not really seeing the field so far but he is tough and smart and will improve with better talent at the Wr position and a running game.

We were down to using David Martin instead of Derek Hagan, patrick cobbs etc.

I actually thought he went through his progressions very well. One pass I thought was beautiful, but was not completed, was his bomb down the right sideline. It landed at about the three yard line...right inside the OB line. A Good WR on a dry field would have come down with that...I thought it was perfectly thrown.

His passes to the sideline...WR Screens I guess you call them...have the needed zip on them to be succesful. He gets the ball out with authority.

I believe you have to look at Beck in the constructs of the environment that he has played in. Two games...against two VERY aggresive D's...in horrible conditions. He has looked as poised as I could have ever hoped. No INTS....which means he has not made the really dumb decisions. And...keep in mind...he has played in the shadow of his goal posts...and has had to thrown from 3rd and long the majority of times. No picks yet...in those conditions. Color me happy.

This Sunday is setting up perfect for John Beck to open up and win us our first game.

Just observing his play Vt, there were times when his down field guys were covered and he glanced (and I mean glanced like his head was on a swivel) at the check down guy and then tried to go back through his progressions, his run up the gut he went through his progressions twice then ran the ball.

When he used the Timeouts, that was a product of very conservative coaching IMO, a vet QB would not have used them IMO, that is just a part of the learning curve for him, ball control game those TO's are solid gold, Beck treated them more like a practice game TO. "What's this? I had better take a TO and discuss..."

That sort of stuff he will learn, and it must be said that rhythm is a huge part of the passing game, JB in these two games just hasn't had a chance to develop that rhythm yet during a game due to conditions on the field and some drops by the Wr's.

And what I love about Cam is the fact that he is one heck of a solid football teacher, if he coaches for us next season or not, the guys he has out there this season will know the game from top to bottom, Ginn and Beck on a comeback route last night was a great example of that, Reagan was doing a great job blocking and even David Martin showed some signs of life.

Derek Hagan dropped that pass and sat on the bench, Chamber's padwan may be on the train out of miami next season...he just has shown -0- improvement

i love how he goes through his progressions so smoothly and quickly already... thats something that usually takes young QBs some time... the weather last night really sucked, but next week we'll be able to get a good read on him...

Altho this was not a very good standard to measure anyone by, Beck at least shows that he knows when to just throw the ball away and not force anything stupid.

I for one was moderatly impressed with JB. I saw the accuracy that was missing last week. He also seemed not to have such 'happy feet' as he had last week.Now if he could get more help from the recievers, ie: catching the ball, we could see even more progress! For an O-fer team there is much reason for optimism.:):)

I was getting totally geeked at his performance last night. Every ball was going to the right place with good accuracy. No ill advised throws really. Of course then I saw Ben's completion percentage (18/21) and realized that the conditions were actually conducive to this. The field conditions were slowing down the game to the point where it was much easier for the QB to operate, IMO.

Still, no pics in 2 games against to excellent defenses. He's already going through his progressions, being smart with the football, making accurate throws, and has excellent pocket presence. Our Dolphins have got themselves a QB.

In nearly 40 years he's the only coach of my favorite teams who turned me off to such extreme that I was embarrassed to be associated, even as a far removed fan. I'm just starting to return attention to the Dolphins, but frankly I don't know the roster very well, since I haven't taped the games and analyzed them later in more than a year. I have to say this... it has been sad to be without Finheaven... but having you back to post... makes it almost worth it.

I gotta say, whoever said that we hadn't scored an offensive TD with Cleo is wrong...I KNOW that he threw at least ONE to Ginn...

On another note, I'm happy with how Beck looks. He doesn't look scared, and he isn't afraid to step up and make the throw, even with someone like Farrior coming down his throat to lay a nasty hit on him.
