Might be worth a look- good size, quicks, aggressiveness, change of direction, speed. Looks to be a good special teams player, nice iso of him at 2:00 in the clip below as a punt coverage flyer. He looks to have plenty of what you need- on the surface- to play CB in the NFL, certainly has an NFL body. But youtube clips- like stats- tend to lie. There must be some major or at least minor malfunctions with him to be rated so lowly. Could be worth a look in the 6th & 7th rounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8qahOLtB1A
Any idea what his major malfunctions have been? Problems with the mental aspects of the game? The guy is fast, quick, chiseled out of stone and just about a perfect size for a DB. I see no reason why he shouldn't have been a very good college CB, and that is definitely reason for concern. Bad instincts, I don't know, but he should have had a better career at UM imo. He certainly looks the part and he shows all the physical characteristics that you'd look for imo.
A lot of Randy Shannon's kids didn't play well save Sean Spence, Colin McCarthy, and Orlando Franklin. I personally think it was from bad coaching and maturity issues. Once he got some alright coaching (the defense sucked last year) and became more of a leader he improved. It's amazing how he went from downright horrible in his first 3 years to solid in his last.
There was a lot of wasted talent at UM when Shannon was in charge. Sam Shields is an excellent example. Olivier Vernon may also turn out to be an example of a guy who their coaching staff was never able to get him to play to his potential. Calais Campbell was another.
