Ah, who could forget, Draft 2007, Mel Kiper was atwitter over Brady Quinn's "falling" out of the Top 5 in the Draft and right into the "Dolphins need a Quarterback" pick at #9. And of course Dolfans were outraged!!!! Fast forward 3 seasons and Quinn: For Peyton Hillis and 2 6th rd picks, and his career is pretty much over as a Starter in the NFL as yr #4 and he cannot pass Tim Tebow for the #2 Qb job in Denver, a new regime being installed in Denver more or less means the end of Quinn in Denver as well as a #3 Qb should not cost as much as Quinn does with as little upside ad Quinn has shown in 4 seasons. I see all sorts of cautionary tales in the Brady Quinn episode: -Fans are not as smart as they think they are, nor as dumb as NFL front offices would like to believe. -Cam Cameron was right about that one..sunshine..dogs butt... I can see Quinn maybe sticking somewhere in the NFL as a backup Qb, maybe someplace like San Diego, but I also think if he wants to advance his career, he has to play more, imho he should take the Doug Flutie route and head to the CFL and try to win a starting job in that league so he could at least have a chance for: -Starting 18 games and show he can command an offense -600 passes thrown, that would create enough film on him that if he has somehow managed to improve it will be clear to NFL GM's that his decision making and accuracy has improved. -Build some confidence Just a thought, as well as a point about "draft a Qb in the first round or you will never find one!" not being quite the way that things work..
Brady Quinn has had the same problem he always has.....accuracy, that's not something that likely will change. He would've set this franchise back even further, thank god for some of your unanswered prayers.
My outrage at the Ted Ginn pick was equal parts (1) Wishing we had taken Quinn; and (2) Taking Ginn way too high for the #9 pick. Often times when discussing the Ginn pick, #2 is obscured by #1. Woulda been nice to have drafted Patrick Willis or Darelle Revis. Hindsight....
Its silly to state how a player that bombed in one organization would have bombed in another with totally different circumstances. Just as silly as claiming a player that is successful in one organization and set of circumstances would have succeeded in another. FATE is fickle!
I always thought Quinn would wind up being a sort of Mike Tomczak, decent Qb, not terribly accurate, can make some plays with his legs, but now, he is double screwed as the Broncos have Tebow and Orton ahead of him and a new Head Coach coming in, he will either be cut or traded who knows where as a new HC means "their" guys especially at a slot like #3 qb who will be inactive on gamedays. Which is why imho he should look into the CFL as more than anything, he needs playing time that he will never get in the NFL barring a Detroit style Qb decimation.
If you guys think Chad Henne checks down too much you'd puke watching Quinn. He has a 5.4 career average YPA. FIVE POINT FOUR! It got to the point in Cleveland where they more or less said "push the ball down field or you're out" and he still wouldn't do it. The Ted Ginn pick was horrible - but at least he won us a few games over the years. Quinn was just an all-around epic fail.
That sounds vaguely familar.. All in all though, still have a small portion of me that thinks Quinn can be an NFL Qb..."if" he has enough reps out on the field, not practice, but playing time, he will not get that in the NFL barring a Lions type calamity of losing 3 Qb's in a single season. He is a young player still, two yrs "up north" 1,200 plays, that would be a great opportunity for him..but he is already wealthy so it is doubtful to say the least.
