well maybe if ronnie wasn't stuck running the Wildcat, virtually making a sitting duck, he'd have more of a chance when he runs the ball
Kudos Friend FinSane! you've made a good argument however, the FrontOffice has a way of tallying up the value of things that is almost written in stone. and any deals struck are almost always known after the fact.
This is getting ridiculous, and starting to piss me off. I'd like to meet lombuthole and stick a Crunchtime ronnie brown vid down his stinkin throat...
Whether you like Ronnie or not, it is impossible to stand behind a statement that he isn't a yards after contact back. PErhaps they are not gaudy numbers, but anyone who has watched him play, knows that he routinely turns negative yardage plays into no gain and/or positve yardage. I also happen to disagree with the not wearing down defenses rhetoric. And saying that he needs seams to be succesful, than panning an offensive set that gives him exactly that makes my head want to explode.
Mike Lombardi usually has brilliant thoughts. I love reading his work but I don't understand how he came up with this on Ronnie Brown.
He doesn't have beef with Ronnie. It's one man's opinion, get a grip people. Don't take it personally...not saying you have to agree with it--argue it, but don't take exception to it.
I think he's a very good analyst but on this case he is way off. Maybe Crunchtime could send him some.gif clips.
I'm not taking exception to the fact that he has an opinion. But I am taking exception to him having weak support for his argument.
ronnie brown is one of our boys, i take it personal, irresponsible reporting can hurt chemistry, confidence, trust and stabilty.
I know you are new here and so I can't fault you for that.. but tom brady is the balls. Just ask gish. edit: on topic. getting rid of a player and creating a hole to shore up another hole doesn't make sense to me.
I think you highly under estimate Jeff Ireland. In the past with the Cowboys Bill wanted to take a player, and Jeff said no, that he wouldn't make it. Bill said yes I am going to take the player. The player that Bill took in the disagreement with Jeff, never saw the field.
Zach was the heart bro, and he is no longer here. I like what Ronnie has given the team, but we must look at the long range plans of the Dolphins, and is Ronnie a part of that or not, and can we do better?
We've got a 100 million dollar offensive line, any halfway decent back should be able to run rampant this season. That said, I'd rather have a rent a Ronnie for this year, then lose a #1 pick and shell out 10 million a season for Anquan Boldin, strategically that doesn't make much sense.
Um, I believe he was continuing the metaphor of different people representing the human body. Ronnie Brown is the heart of our team, Bill Parcells is the balls of our team. What does Tom Brady have to do with our team?
i didn't think tom brady had any. like you said; back on topic. the cardinals have these 3 needs. RB, LB, and TE. We have LB needs as well so we can't offer them that. So its either Ronnie Brown or Anthony Fasano. I think a TE is more replaceable than a RB, so what do you guys think about Fasano and a pick (2nd) for Boldin?
I completely disagree with the limitations that Lombardi is labeling Ronnie with. Ronnie is a very instinctive runner and has always fought for extra yards. His vision and power are two of his strongest assets. I'm pretty dumbfounded by this ludicrous assessment. edit: for the record, Tony Sparano is the heart of this team.
It is amazing that after the season he had last year and the importance he was to our offense that some people are wanting to throw Ronnie Brown under the bus. Thank goodness these people do not run this organization.
I wonder if Mr. Lombardi can explain to us what running back doesn't need seams to be successful. Even Barry Sanders did.
wtf......how many times on 3rd and short do you see ronnie get hit behind the line of scrimmage.....and he drives, drives, drives.....the ref ALMOST blows the whistle for his forward motion being stopped and he spins, churns, puts his shoulder down and smashes into a safety for a first down?!?!?!? all the time.....how the **** is he not a after contact guy?!?!? this guy is ******ed.......
I just cant agree with Lombardi on this one. We see several plays a game where ronnie runs guys over and continues gaining chunks of yards for us. I'm not sure what he's thinking here.
I contend that Ronnie Brown is the type of RB who gets better on his 18th carry than he does on his first. But we'll never really know that, because rarely does he get that many carries. And if he does, they are too spaced out for him to build any momentum.
no. Bill Parcells is the nagging wife. He buys the groceries, keeps the place clean, and is never happy with his team. Joey Porter is the currently the balls of the Dolphins.
I suppose we could with a lot of luck, but we could do a whole lot worse too. Everytime I hear a Dolphin running back debate I think back to Miami's running back struggles over the years. Before we got Ricky Williams (for two 1st round picks and more) and after Czonka and Morris we just couldn't find a decent running back, except for Delvin Williams for one year. After Ricky Williams took his hiatis we again went through struggles to find a decent running back.
I'm going out on the limb with this one & don't mean to step on any toes, however, Ronnie still has much to prove. He runs best in Tandem & has always been a TandemBack. I don't see him as a Franchise Back & I believe this is the consensus in the FrontOffice. I like Ronnie & love him running in Tandem with Ricky & out of the WildCat, but am not be surprised to see him on the trading block. Hope we get to see the Tandem in 2009. I'm sure they will provide the base of our attack, running behind the Orca-5. And this may be the very reason he will remain a Dolphin. we would need @ least a #2 plus a mid-round draft pick to close the deal. not much chance of that. Boldin for Ronnie, straight up? Probably not going to happen either.
Is he watching the same runningback I have been for 4 years? Ronnie isnt a good "after contact runner." Is this a sick joke. This guy is so dumb its incredible, I will gladly take his job.
This is what happens when the editor says "Quick Mike, we've gotta get something out the door by midnight....what'ya got on the Dolphins?"...well nothing, but I could pull something out of my arse and we can run with that". I can't see how it could be any other way. I know alot of you draft gurus like this guy and see him as a mentor, but come on, he's so far off with this statement that he risks losing ALL credibility.
CK did a thread a while back on how Brown gets better after something like carry number 16. But I don't need stats to tell me that. I can see it in the games where he's gotten the ball late....he dominated.
I can see where Lombardi has a point although he does a terrible job of explaining it. Ronnie Brown has never fully committed to hitting holes hard on a regular basis. From time to time he'll jam one in there but mostly he likes to dance and pick his space, which he is superb at doing, hence his success with the single wing. I think this is what Lombardi was trying to get at. Now, once Brown get's into that second level he uses his speed to bolster momentum and lower that devastating shoulder on a defender. Trading Ronnie Brown would come as quite a shock to me but after surviving Zach Thomas I guess all is possible and anything can truly be for the better.
