Meat-Heads unite!!! Seriously, some hard-core weight-lifters and dieters here? Lets ask some questions and share some knowledge. This is certainly more specific from an over-all fitness conversation, and so I thought I'd streamline the iron talk.

Me, I'm 31, been lifting naturally since high school, but sense my body breaking down on me a tad(shoulder issue lately). I've been bumbling around trying different routines, and theories. But I found myself going back to Dorian Yates' style of lifting, based very loosley off of Mike Mentzer principles. When I was broke and 17, I went to GNC and read Blood and Guts cover to cover while my friends walked the mall, and thats been my inspiration ever since. I've gotten away from that a bit lately, but now I'm back.

My biggest issue is, and always has been sleep and dieting. Sleep is obvious, i cant get on a regular schedule. But dieting has been worse. I have a weak appetite, and the 6 meals a day ting is hard for me for that, and laziness. i juts dont have the time to put together 6 meals, or have the time it seems, to sit and eat them all. but as of late i'm trying. but that leads me to a reason i started this thread...supplements.

i've been out of the supplement game for a long time. theres some crazy stuff on the market. no-xplode, muscle-milk, protein shooters, and then the old amino acids, creatine, glutamine and what have you. who takes what and why? im leading towards taking the no-xplode because many times, im literally draggin *** into the gym, on those 3 lousy days i bother going. also, i want a good protein that is quick and easy(mixes well and is not too voluminous so i can pound it quick) i think my diet certainly needs some extra protein. i hear muscle milk tastes good anyway, but recommendations?

    stories to tell?

we'll its pretty much like all creatine. If you push, at least IMO, you will find the energy is there. I also was able to go a little bit above and beyond with weight. The only problem is like creatine it dehydrates you. I order it from bodybuilding.com. I think big container is like 30+ dollars, which for the amount you use and the amount you get is not to bad.

wait, i thought no xplode was a nitric oxide pre-workout drink, that supports blood circulation, energy, focus etc. not creatine.

As far as supplements Ive posted before my thoughts. I limit myself to CLA and nothing else. At this point I only believe in taking things that are extremely limited in their chemical enhancement. I truly dont believe much of this crap to be safe.

My best and most simple advice to any aspiring bodybuilder would be do not OVERTRAIN..you train to stimulate growth period.. any more than that is muscle masturbation and will do nothing but burn calories and make it harder to recover.

alright so i wanna get in on this....i lifted heavily in highschool/college for football, as a inside linebacker....my core and neck/shoulders were KEY....my workouts were not the same as a normal gym goer....we had a strength coach, nutritionist etc...(the perks of a D-2 scholarship university)

well im getting back into my college workouts...(waking up at 530, running, then going to work, then lifting in the afternoon/evening) eating 6 meals a day is very hard working full time and what-not.....but i know, working out first thing in the morning, without eating anything significantly speeds up your metabolism.....

not to mention i drink water all day i piss like a camel....(which my strength coach in college told me drinking water all day you'll burn 1000 calories justby doin that)

when it comes to lifting i do alot of big work.....cleans, jerks, incline bench, wide/close-grip bench, rows, and shoulder shrugs (thankgod for straps)

just a pointer i learned in college.....when we would get towards our max bench weight....we'd shoot for getting it 4 times.....obviously our muscles are straining and pushing very slow/hard to get it up (sense the weights your max....you cant just throw it up) well to "trick" your twitch muscles....IMMEDIATLEY after the struggling of those 4 reps....you hit the ground and do 10 very fast clap push ups....

muscle memory is incredible....so you are infact "tricking" your fast twitch muscles to 'fire' faster when you lift that heavy weight next time, so you will hopefully not take as long to get it up, and maybe do it faster......

ill have more to come but seriously....i got to wingate university in january....at 270 pounds.....if i didnt lose weight by the spring game they woulda put my fingers in the dirt and play d-end or Dt.....well i am a damn inside linebacker.....just running early in the moring 3 days a week/lifting 5 (different parts) video and playbook scripting weekends.....i was 230 pounds by the end up march.....just gotta work!

Yeah I get a laugh when people assume bodybuilders "live" in the gym. I have met guys that have competed in NPC shows, some of them national level shows, and most of those guys spend a total of 10 hrs TOPS a week in the gym, some as little as 7 hrs a week.

People forget the body does its growing when you sleep, not when you pump the muscles up. That's why you need 8-10 hours a night of sleep to do it right as a bodybuilder.

I was 6ft 2 and 135 lbs in High School. I hated PE class because when we had to take a shower all the kids ragged on me, calling me Skeltor or Skeleton Man. Yes the pelvic bones stuck out of me. I couldn't help it, I ate everything in sight, my motabolism just wouldn't let me put on muscle.

Now at 48 years old, all I have to do is look at a donut and I gain a couple of pounds :pity:

Out of all the protien Ive drank (powder or liquid) I found muscle milk to be the best. The lightest on your stomach, smooth and easy to pound, although 1 bad think about it is it is loaded with calories, about 250-300 a bottle if i remember correctly (I havent drank it in about 8 months)

Yup you said it. Im only 24 but over the last 2-3 years I can def see the metabolism dropping off. In my case it was nice bc I always lifted quite a bit and never completely blew up. Mission accomplished. At the same time, when the winter hits and I stay inside more and just eat everything insight I need to be a little more careful about not looking like a hybernating bear.
