Bleacher Report article on Jordan Tripp

Problem is, Tripp is stuck in a sort of muddy log jam at Lb, is he better than Jelani Jenkins? Can he beat out Ellerbe? What of the Contracts?

 

I'm all in..

I watch a lot of interviews and see highlights of the OTA's in the background..

On one play I saw him directing traffic before the snap, on another play I saw him *****ing out one of his guys for being in the wrong spot..like pissed off.

I really like his game on film, I see instincts and athleticism, not sure what else you want, he's light at middle backer but has room for 15 lbs.

 

well Misi is the starter now so he's gonna be behind him for a while, let him get bigger and stronger..if wheeler and Ellerbe don't start off the season hot, Jenkins is hot on their overpaid asses.

 

I wonder how close Jenkins is to taking serious snaps away from Ellerbe. We really didn't hear any reports, good or bad, about Philip Wheeler through OTAs. The same cannot be said about Dannell Ellerbe. I certainly think Jenkins at least has a solid backup role this season, at the least.

 

Well somebody will need too, Ellerbe is a goner after this year.

 

There is no question Jenkins is the more talented player over Ellerbe, just a matter of time if Ellerbe doesn't get his sh&$ right, he played way to heavy last year I noticed and moved like a cinder block.

There are multiple reports from players saying that Jenkins looks like he's the most improved player, when you combine that with his very good athleticism and talent, we might have something there..he's also very strong and smart..the one thing that was missing in his game was physicality and nastiness, hopefully that's something he is now developing, it's not the norm but hopefully.

 

This quote would be nice if true.

 

Jordan Tripp was another guy I never got round to really reviewing pretty hard, but that I kept hearing great things about from people I like. Matt Hazel was like that too.

And actually the comparison I saw brought up most with Tripp was Kiko Alonso. Matt Miller (who is being hyped as B/R's version of Mel Kiper) brought that up, some guy named David Syvertsen brought it up (claims to be a draft writer with ourlads.com), and lastly NFLDraftBites (who by the way is clearly a former professional) flat out said that NFL people are making that comparison to Alonso.

Josh Norris also loved Tripp...thought he'd be better than Chris Borland.

 

I so want this to happen. We desperately need that kind of leadership and playmaking on defense.

 

A lot more talent in this draft than last year's draft.

 

Underweight, small conference. He's gonna take a couple years.

 

Also.. The Philip Wheeler pressure statistics are way higher than I thought they were.

All the Tripp tape available to the general public is quite frankly, very meh. But you watch the select highlights from the ESPN broadcast and you think whoa, there's definitely some game-changing ability there.

He was first-team FCS and Big Sky in 2013, surely there is some outstanding tape out there, just not available as far as I can find.

 

He played at Montana. Kiko Alonso played at Oregon.

Should also be noted Alonso had 4 interceptions, 14.0 TFLs and 2 forced fumbles in his final 12 games whereas Tripp had 3 interceptions, 5.5 TFLs and 1 forced fumble.

 

The comparison statistically evens out a bit when you compare Tripp's and Alonso's last two seasons in college:

Jordan Tripp: 195 tackles, 19.0 TFLs, 4 INT, 4 BU, 8 PD, 4 FR, 5 FF, 1 BLK
Kiko Alonso: 127 tackles, 20.0 TFLs, 6 INT, 3 BU, 9 PD, 2 FR, 2 FF, 0 BLK

But to be fair that probably has a lot to do with playing time. If you were to compare best individual years, it would look like this:

Jordan Tripp (JR): 95 tackles, 13.5 TFLs, 1 INT, 2 BU, 3 PD, 1 FR, 4 FF, 0 BLK
Kiko Alonso (SR): 81 tackles, 14.0 TFLs, 4 INT, 3 BU, 7 PD, 2 FR, 2 FF, 0 BLK
