Reports coming out that he tore ACL/MCL. Out for year. He was becoming a QB's target the last few practices.
There goes our size. oh wait we still got Egnew! on a serious note hopefully Sims can be that red zone threat for us.
This is to bad he was really working hard at his craft and excelling. wish a fast a healthy recovery!
I was just thinking about Pitta's injury earlier today and was thankful we hadn't been hit by the injury bug yet ... (sigh)
I wonder if they don't look at a veteran wide receiver at this point further down the roster. Brandon Stokely or Steve Breaston seem like good options for #4/#5's at this point.
Time for Fuller to start stepping up. What about giving Gaffney another go since he already has some familiarity with the offense?
Two prospects for the No 4 and No 5 WR spots are gone in short order .Thank goodness its not one of the top three .I expect we will pick up similar talents from other teams squads as they are cut .Plus we have several free agents and practice squad players in house who know the system and can compete for those jobs. I will miss Mathews more because he has proved he can translate preseason success into regular season success. How many times have we seen preseason heroes turn into regular season duds.
This certainly makes the 4/5 interesting now, as I think Binns had the 4th wrapped up (or at least the 5th)...
Best of luck to Binns, he was my favorite sleeper to bust out this year, hope for a speedy recovery and hopefully he can still have success in this league seems like a good guy from his interviews and what not.
This really sucks. I was looking so forward to seeing his progression through preseason. Tough break, he he comes back strong next year.
I never got hyped for him during the offseason because what he put on tape at the end of the year was bad..wanted to see if Bengal fans were correct in saying that he flashed in practice a lot but disappeared in games.
Damn 2 receivers down over the weekend. Binns was inconsistent to say the least but he was doing so well. Hopefully he can come back better than ever next year. I'm very intrigued by McNutt. This is a golden opportunity for him and I hope he runs with it.
for now -- Marvin McNutt, Jeff Fuller, Brian Tyms, Chad Bumphis, Kenny Stafford, Jasper Collins and newcomer Andrell Smith competing for the No. 4 and 5 receiving jobs. McNutt has had the best camp of that group. Another receiver might be signed. Matthews could end up as Miami's fourth receiver unless he needs to begin the season on the PUP list. Also, return specialist Marcus Thigpen has taken some snaps at receiver in camp and could play there, though the Dolphins have been using him primarily as a tailback. With better tight end play and the use of other positions like rb or even fb, the issue of losing these two guys is not as bad. Plus, as much as I liked Matthews, McNutt and Fuller might not be far behind.
Hopefully Matthews comes back before the preseason ends. I don't think losing Binns will prove to be that big of a deal. It's unfortunate for him.
I blame Omar Kelly. Thank God he hasnt been singing Tannehill's praises. That dude is some sort of living, breathing Madden Curse.
Miami kept 5 TEs last year (Fasano, Clay, Egnew, Mastrud, Miller), so I think keeping 4 is realistic, though that 4th TE might not be on the roster at this point, IMO. Obviously, you'd like to see Egnew win it...I guess we'll see.
I don't really care that it opens the door to others - Binns and Matthews were clearly 4-5 guys. Second, I think Binns and Matthews had the potential to surpass Gibson in both PT and talent. Third, having a good #4 is key in the WC offense and can be significantly valuable. Hopefully Matthews can get back before the end of camp.
Can;t help but think of how dependable Stokely was with Manning in Indy, even before Denver. Wouldn't be a bad guy to have around for a year or so, not just for Tannehill, but as an influence on the younger receivers.
Am I one of the few not tripping? Receivers 1-4 are all good for now (Keller #4). Rishard Matthews is only out for a few weeks and has experience under our system. Does suck for Binns. Will he get another chance? Not a lot of roster spots in the NFL judging by serviceable WRs without a job.
