I saw him perform his snake milking show several times, and each time was as harrowing as the last, since he was bitten by different venomous snakes numerous times over the years, often onstage. So much so that his blood was used to make antivenin serum.

There must be something to his theory that snake venom had medicinal uses, given that he lived to be 100 and ran his laboratory right up until he died. I hope someone continues his work.

Why do I get the feeling you went to a "snake milking show", thinking it was something entirely different? And is having that feeling my fault or yours?

Any of the other old-timers remember going to the Serpentarium? It was a popular school field trip in my time.
