We know he's likely gone so mow lets say who the best draft pick was.... I say Pat White.... Just kidding.. Reshad Jones,Brian Hartline,Chris Clemons,Rishard Matthews ,Jimmy Wilson All drafted in 4 and 5th round Hartline in 4th the other guys in 5th this guys were good too 7Th round Rishard Matthews,Jimmy Wilson
Right now: Mike Pouncey In 2 years: Dion Jordan and Ryan Tannehill. He will be LONG gone by the time those two hit their stride.
Agreed , but he has been better than Jones imo , and the whole oline fiasco has to be taken in to consideration . Wasn't the question and not to derail this but the lack of elite difference makers is a big part of this imo.
Guys,u remember only high picks that are good?. charles clay another good player in late round....Edit(Actually 6th round)
These guys are in the top 10 at their position on PFF. 5 Long 7 Pouncey 7 Tannehill 9 Clemmons 9 Davis
Mike Pouncey. When your best draft pick is one of your least important players on your team, you have a problem.
hmmm... this season - there's also Don Jones. Reserve Safety... Special teams. 7th round pick... 7 tackles and 2 FF on the season. Sturgis has his moments. Jordan will be eventually if they ever figure out he's better than OV. The others we'll find out about in the next couple seasons.
Hartline was like a 5th alternate, sorry a handful of receivers didn't drop out so he could make it. If he was a pro bowl receiver we wouldn't have given another guy a $60 million contract.
True, but Jones and Ireland had to talk Parcells back from the ledge because Parcells needed assurance Spears would be there for their 2nd 1st rounder. Once he was assured Spears would still be there, Parcells wanted Merriman, and Jones and Ireland were on team Ware. So he wasn't GM but at least he identified the right guy.
I dont care to give him any props right now. When will they tell us he's fired? Come on Dolphins, you're on the clock. Turn in your card. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I know this for a fact. All three of the men in question crowed about the wisdom of it afterward. Jerry Jones said he saw another Charles Haley. Bill Parcells said he saw another Lawrence Taylor. Jeff Ireland said he saw another Derrick Thomas. So before we start spinning our wheels and creating "known facts" out of what is really just rumor and innuendo about who wanted what, etc...let's start with the known facts. Bill Parcells loved the pick and thought Demarcus Ware would be another Lawrence Taylor. "Every player you take should remind you of a player you've coached before" he said afterward, and Ware reminded him strongly of LT.
Bill Parcells wanted Marcus Spears there. So I dont care what Parcells says, his actions at the time were different. Ireland actually got that one right.
Best Ireland pick as a Dolphin GM: Mike Pouncey. That is until Tannehill becomes the pro bowl QB I expect him to be.
There's no way that can be true. off the top of my head. Manning. Rodgers. Rivers. Wilson. Cutler. Stafford. Brees. Brady. Then you have to start going Luck. Romo. Foles. Newton. I don't think Tannehill comes in until around 16th in the league (advanced stats or traditional stats). There's no way he is 7th. Has to by a typo.Best Ireland pick. Vontae Davis? How many pro bowlers has he drafted? 1? Long?
Jake Long was the best pick, even if he was 1 overall. Multiple Pro Bowls, absolutely nasty at this position. You can't fault a GM for a guy getting injured.
Agree with your point, but have to disagree with Parcells bolded viewpoint. So if you discover something you haven't had before as a coach, you shouldn't draft it? That's just limited, parochial, and jurassic thinking. So it verifies that Parcells definitely said it.
