I've had that feeling that Miami was skimping on costs on the top for a while now and that's what the youth obsession has been, including the cut of Will Allen and others. It's probably the reason Brian Waters wasn't given 2.5-3m to join the team. Huizenga had deep pockets, this guy doesn't. As far as Ireland staying, here's what I wonder. Is he being severely limited by the team's budget. His drafting has overall been good, not great. Perhaps that's the reason he's still here. In 2010 he made that big splash with Marshall and Dansby but then went over the top to cut and cut guys like veteran DEs that were still productive. The poor offers to Ryan Clark, all of those things come into play. The drafting of Odrick to make up eventually for the possible loss of Langford. Billy Beane where are you?
the word was used after the chanting for orton situation happened at a practice..and I specified that I was not talking about members of this board, but the ignorant ones who were calling radio stations and supporting it..
I don't believe for 1 second that Ross wanted to save money for the wrong reasons...I think he will have deep pockets for us in the future.
The Patriots game was pretty roudy so I think the fans gave the team a decent chance to show them something. Other than that, this team has been mediocre thru the entire 2000's and still remained in the top 10 in attendance. With over 60,000 season tickets sold last season. That's one of the hightest prepaid ticket amounts that this team has seen in years! Now who is treating who wrong? I'm sorry DJ but this is where I have a problem and feel that I must speak up. There is absolutely no way that this stadium is a disadvantage to the team and I feel that it is you that is digging way to deep to try and find things that just aren't there. The only thing the new Head Coach needs to overcome is the roster he is handed. That's the ONLY issue needed to be addressed. There is some good talent but there is also some mediocre talent mixed in. So he will need to be able to weed out the average and replace it with solid players. Improve the roster and the fans will come. Turn the team into a solid team and the fans will start wanting to buy season tickets. Improve the team into a contender for their division and the DOLPHINS fans will become rabid again. It's not the stadium and it sure the heck is not Dolphins fans that are the problem. It's the team, the roster, the staff and THEIR culture....
Again! His season ticket sales will drop so far next year if he keeps Sparano. (UNLESS the teams turns things around this season) Hiring anyone else will make him more money if this team continues to suck.
One thing, just to weigh in on Jon Gruden for a minute. It seems almost unanimously that everyone that weighs in on Gruden is quick to point out that he won the Super Bowl with someone else's team. But almost nobody points out the team that he built in Oakland under Al Davis. That team was in the AFC Championship and had the Patriots beaten, if not for the tuck rule, a rule that went on to change during the off season based on that game. Gruden leaves and goes to the Bucs where he actually did revamp the offense a little, new quarterback, some new weapons, etc. That Super Bowl was all Jon Gruden. It was Jon Gruden's Station versus Jon Gruden's Creation. The guy he coached against was Gruden's long time assistant Bill Callahan, who'd followed him to a number of different teams. The Oakland roster was all Jon Gruden. The Oakland offense was all Jon Gruden. And Jon Gruden won that game probably in no small part because he could figure out good ways to beat his own creation. I don't know if Jon Gruden is the answer. There are some things I like about him and things I don't. I don't really have the answer. But I know a lot of people aren't really being fair when they talk about him.
appreciate the tone and dissagreement..I see our differences on the subject, and we both are deep in our convictions..Lets just say my thought process on the matter is the reverse from yours, I agree that if you put a winning product on the field we would fill the seats, That's just not my point... a tangible, debilitating thing happened to this fanbase and the canes fanbase, the day they moved into that stadium, it took away their power to affect a game and have pride....Thats a big deal to a culture..especially one with so much richness and fame because of it to begin with, from there it goes into many directions as to how it shows its ugly face..can it be overcome, Ia'm pretty sure it can, just don't have any proof, it's been pretty hard on some good names. its just something that me and you will have to work around OZ..but I will always try and listen to your disagreements.
Ross is a fame whore, so be assured it will be a big name. Gruden and Cowher will be at the top of the list. Are there any up and coming college coaches that would be willing to make the jump?
