Nonsense... what qualifies him to express his opinion about John Beck?
    ---
I disagree with him. McCown should be let go...released or traded
It might "cost" us more to keep Beck but for John Beck to flourish somewhere else? That would be an even more costly mistake. But Parcells has been known to think with his ego first..soo there we are, back in sqaure 1.

Man those are a lot of draft picks to give up in 8 years. Odds are we could have some starters on the roster for at least a few of them. That has been the downfall of the past mgmt groups.

I don't really care if beck AND McCown get released at some point, as long as Pennington and Henne end the search for a QB for a long time. They don't even have to be pro bowlers, just play well enough to be considered a quality starting qb, so we don't have to keep wasting our influx of talent through the draft trying to find the answer at QB.

Man that is discouraging when you look at it in hindsight, and why i'm not suprised we have had the abysmal decade that we have had.

I don't care who our QB is, someone just step up and play the position well enough to take us to the playoffs.

    PFT is a rumor site

I submitted my own rumor a few months ago and Florio ran with it and credited me as a "source close to the team".

Its is a rumor site like L2G said but there was a report saying that the Dolphins are shopping Beck and McCown. If that holds true, I will be very disappointed with the patience of this management. 5 total games, 3 starts, no weapons on an abysmal team and your giving up on him? I don't know what excuse they could have for letting him go. Its certainly not a reason for Beck not being a pick of theirs. He compares favorably to the Quarterbacks who have were part of Parcells team in the past. He's one inch shorter and one pound lighter than the average starting Quarterback under Parcells. I'd definitely be disappointed if we let Beck go, especially since he hasn't been given the fair shake imo.

On the other end of this, if they do keep Beck as the third option, then cut him. I rather see Beck get a chance with another team such as San Francisco.

I read a quote that said they could end up keeping only two guys which would mean Pennington and Henne. I know Henne has been impressive to them but its very likely that he will play this year if he's the backup. Pennington has one 16 game season under his belt in his career. I don't know if you want to put Henne in there as a rookie.

    proof or BAN! ;)

meh, he has a certain angle, but he didn't say Beck is being cut... just odd man out. people like to take a lot of good information from PFT and twist it to make it sound really bad or rumor-mongering.

Florio's on the level, it's just not always what we want to hear.

I don't know if it's as far off base as people are making it seem. I think they'll keep trying to trade one of them throughout the pre-season to some team that might lose a QB or who may be willing to deal for Beck if he shows something in the next few weeks.

Doesn't shock me. The FO prefers Chad Henne. John Beck wouldn't be ready to perform if Pennington is (and likely will be) hurt. Would you rather have McCown on the roster if Pennington gets hurt, or would you rather have Beck?

Seems like a logical conclusion for Florio to reach.

    Pfft....

That's easy, I'd rather have a young prospect rather than a 7 year confirmed NFL backup with no growth potential.

I said it in another thread, what danger is there exactly in keeping our young prospects over a player that is without a doubt a backup. Are we contending for a Championship? If Pennington goes down and Beck or Henne come in will it cost us a Super Bowl run?

If we were challenging for a title this year, letting Beck go would be more arguable but lets take it even further into how important young prospects with potential are to team.

Lets take 2 yearly Super Bowl favorites in New England and Indianapolis.
Both teams have taken the risk of not carrying vet backups at QB to keep young prospects instead. If those teams who are legitimate championship teams can take the risk of keeping young prospects at the backup position, it makes us seem pretty stupid to get rid of ours considering we have no Championship run to protect.

It doesn't make sense if the organization has determined Beck does not have the potential that you believe he does.

That is true. I also believe, it doesn't make sense for the FO to determine that already ... after one week of bad practice, after seeing how well he did during the offseason, Sparano's own words.

Seeing the timeline it has taken many quality prospects to make the transition would make that determination at this point a questionable one.

Secondly, and again, we have absolutely nothing to lose in keeping the prospect over a vet backup seeing that we can all agree we're challenging for nada this year.

I think the FO has enough to go off of, while we certainly do not. I will say this, that if Beck does end up being cut or traded, this board will be very angry.

With all due respect, with all the mistakes this organization has made over the last couple decades with personnel, I've given up the ole "those in charge always do the smart thing" assumption.

Yes, I will be upset....... not that it will change anything.

But even when those prospects were struggling, the FO of those teams saw enough in those prospects to keep them. Only thing we know definitively is that this FO asked Beck to change his mechanics during the offseason. Other than that we really have nothing in regards to their opinion of Beck.

Secondly, when you start giving the team the idea that we're not going to be competitive this season, you are asking for a 1-15 record (fail forward fast). You have to make players earn their roster spot. Not saying that Beck hasn't or won't, but you don't just keep a player around in hopes that one day he turns out to be great. You want him to show flashes atleast.

Well, certainly when Wannstadt, Spielman, Saban, and RanCam were around, I didn't think many personnel decisions were smart. But I think this FO and staff has more of a proven track record when it comes to personnel.

EDIT: I think you missed the point that the ones in charge are the only ones with the information required to make a proper decision.

    I dindn't miss it..... I just don't trust it.
Other factors can sometimes go into decisions and while Parcell's has a good track record of building teams, he also has been accused of making decisions based on ego and a lack of patience.

With the amount of time this team has been without a QB, you'd think young prospects would be focus number 1. Guess it may not be.

We'll never agree on this so let's just see what happens.

I think the whole thing about Parcell's making decisions based on ego and lack of patience is a bit overblown.

And I do agree that young prospects would be focus number one. But you can't just keep any prospect on the roster unless you believe they have the potential to be good.

It is still beyond me what anyone has ever seen in Beck to make them believe he was the answer to our QB problems. At least in Henne you see the potential. Rocket arm, some decent thickness to his body to absorb the hits, a bit of a swagger, seems like the kind of guy that will have some beers with his offensive linemen. I have yet to see one moment in Beck's brief career that would cause me to pause and say, hmmmm the kid has something about him that might make him succeed. Not only short but thin, plays in a panic when things break down, the personality of a suck up "yes coach, no coach", can you honestly tell me the offensive linemen want to hang out with him? Do you picture Vernon Carey or Jake Long or Justin Smiley knocking back a few cold ones with the guy? And if you dont think that's important then you dont understand what Parcells is looking for in a QB. He wants a guy that commands and takes charge of the huddle. Part of that is bonding with your teammates. Who has Beck bonded with? David Lee? You tell me honestly, how many of you think Beck has the cojenes to take control of the huddle when things are breaking down.

Sorry just had to get that off my chest. I'll just crawl away now. Now back to the Beck lovefest.
