This is bad news for us. Now SF will be getting the very best pick of the coaching litter ahead of us. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5958834&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines Will they attract Cowher? If we are going to shop for a new Head Coach the time to do this is NOW before they are picked over.
Cowher was reportedly only interested in NYG, Miami and Houston in that order. I would imagine if the Niners are willing to pay, Gruden makes a lot of sense.
I think Miami, if we are in the market, will go for a coordinator anyways. My dream is for Cowher, but I just don't think it will happen.
How could Cowher put SF on his wish list when he didn't know that there would be a position available there? SF is a head coaches dream team. Every coach that has come and gone from SF has raved about how well they were treated. (except Singletary) This is bad for us because SF is a dynasty team that will seek only a very established coach / coordinator candidates, one that we might have been interested in. There is no way this is good new for us. If we are going to get a new coach - the time is NOW~!
What are you talking about? San Fran...just like any other team searching for a HC will interview more than one candidate. One will most assuredly be a minority candidate. And I'm willing to go out on a limb here and say that no one is going to be hired before the end of the season. I'm willing to bet on that.
because the team kind of sucks. Notice that Cowhers 3 choices are all in the decent but not great category? Niners are in the suck category. Plus, Coughlins job was/is more secure than Singeltarys and he still put the Giants on his list. so clearly that doesnt matter.
My dream coach is one I know we'll never get...it's the coach Don Shula said he would have picked if he could have hand picked as his successor... Marty Shottenheimer AFC Championship with the Cleveland Browns AFC Championship with the Kansas City Chiefs AFC Divisional Playoffs with the San Diego Chargers He wouldn't fit into the profile that Jerry Jones eloquently pointed out on NFL Gameday...that no Super Bowl winning coach has ever won a Super Bowl with another team. Marty would be due, but I really don't know if he's past his time. To quote Maxwell Smart..."missed it by that much"
OK Guys, Have it your way - this is good for us. There are only so many good candidates out there so by all means lets wait about ten weeks until they are all gone. We'll just take the picked over coaches and other goof balls like Cam Cameron, then everyone will be happy. Again. . . . . .
Cobra - relax man.... Other people's opinions can be right and wrong just as yours can be..... I think its true that we will lose out on Harbaugh, but i dont think its because of sf. I think Jim really wants to coach at university of Michigan and mr rodriguez is on his way out the door. Plus the niners have crap practice facilities and they play in a ****hole. The Stanford Cardinal have better facilities. I also think that Ross will want a big name; someone who will help him sell tickets. Gruden is the probably going to be offered a few jobs. Now if the dolphins keep tony and go for coordinators....I want: 1) Kubiak 2)Rob Chudzinski 3)jeff fisher
Cobra, in case it's slipped your mind... Brad Childress was fired in Minnesota. Zygler has had ALL of this time to decide what avenue he wants to pursue for a new head coach. Wade Phillips was fired in Dallas. Jerry Jones has had ALL of this time to decide what avenue he wants to pursue for a new head coach. Mike Singletary was JUST fired. York has YET to decide what avenue he wants to pursue for a new head coach. We haven't EVEN fired our head coach yet and Stephen Ross will probably have to put on a Broadway production of A Chorus Line complete with choreography for his celebrity minority owners before wittling away the candidates to replace Sparano. Now, sarcasm aside, even if we were to fire Sparano this very moment, unless Ross has been doing some secretive consulting which no one has heard a whisper about, it would take weeks before making a decision on who we want to hire as our head coach. San Francisco is no further ahead of us in the coaching scouting pool than we are...and you also have to keep in mind, would San Francisco's first choice even WANT the job?
Why is the 49er's job better than the Miami job ? Too me they are about equal right now, with Miami with a leg up because our defense is better.
The article says they will be going after a GM first and I don't think BC will want to work under anyone...
If Miami is going for a new coach we better grab a good one available now because they will be going fast.
You reminded me of a coach who I think is the perfect candidate for the Dolphins job. Someone who never thought winning and excitement were mutually exclusive in any way. A guy who loved big plays however he could get them. Someone who could laugh off any pressure from fickle owners or ticket holders. While he could play the fool in front of the cameras, he never did it to cover up any perceived knack of knowledge of the tactics or strategy of football. Unfortunately, Jerry Glanville is two years older than even Marty Schottenheimer.
Insiders say San Fran will focus on choosing and hiring a great General Manager first. Then THAT person will get to conduct a coaching search and that 'big name' head coaches aren't a priority. (as per NFL network coverage of Singletary firing) That's as it should be. The GM should run the show, with the coach working for the GM. Hire the GM first. To me, either Ireland gets to fire Sparano and hire a new coach, or Ross fires Ireland too and seeks a new GM. Biggest loss of our rebuild was that Parcells didn;t get his son-in-law Scott Pioli to become OUR GM when he left the Patriots instead of becoming the Chiefs GM.
Cowher if he is even going to coach,i would think will chose a team with a qb.If i was him i would wait for norv turner to get fired and take over the chargers not the dolphins or 49ers who don't have a proven qb.
I think Cowher is a tad overrated as a coach...I mean, it took the guy 15 years to win a SB. And some of the teams he had were pretty loaded. I think he's a good coach and I wouldn't mind having him here, but I'll live if we go another route.
That is now 4 coaches who have gotten fired. That is before the end of the season. Good year to be looking for a head coaching job.
why does everyone want cowher so bad... he will want GM powers and that almost NEVER works out well. It took him over a decade to go to a superbowl once he got the steelers job after a pretty decent team fell in his lap. if he didnt fall into a talent like big ben,he would have been fired a year after that draft. He is not as good of a coach as everyone thinks and i dont want ANYONE who demands GM powers and HC. Thats just stupid to give one guy that much power
Hey Cobrajet if you listen to ESPN's Adam Shefter, he thinks as many as TEN coaches will be losing their job come this off season. It's NOT bad news for us, it's just reality in the NFL that you lose your job if you cannot win. Shefter said Cowher would probably be the top guy considered in Miami and that Cowher would prefer to coach either in NY, Miami or Houston. Just because San Fran fired their coach first doesn't mean they will "Get the pick of the litter."
Cowher and guys like that are smart people, how do you get more money? Leverage, how do you get leverage? Have more than one team wanting you. They will wait to after the season and all the chips fall.
I don't see Cowher ending up with the 49ers. I though before yesterday that the Dolphins or the Texans would probably be the best bet to land Cowher. Of course that was before the Giants collapse in Green Bay. Right now I think Cowher will probably end up as the head coach of the Giants after this season. Unless the Giants some how make the playoffs and get to at least the NFC title game. I do think that the firing of of the 49ers coach does make it more difficult for the Dolphins to go after Jim Harbaugh if they are so inclined. Harbaugh is already the coach at Stanford. He could become the coach of the 49ers and not even have to move out of his house. If he likes living in Northern California and the 49ers offer him the job. I think it is very likely he would accept it. Right now I think the only former coach who might end up in Miami if Sparano is fired is John Gruden. Ross is reported to be high on Gruden and with Cowher possible headed to the Giants and Harbaugh perhaps to the 49ers. Gruden may be the only option left to Ross if he wants to bring in a big name coach after this season.
The fact that Singletary has been fired and that several others may or may not be on the bubble here, may accelerate Sparano's departure. Of course this is assuming his departure is on it's way. Personally I believe he has done a decent job and his problem lies in his QB. The first half of Sundays game prove my point. Henne for the most part played well and we were kicking their a$$. Then came the second half.......well, you know the story from there. Story of the season.
Nope, I guess they are after Parcells instead... my mistake. Most owners wouldn't concern me but this owner is a very aggressive guy. I thought this would only hurt us if we were in the market for a coach, turns out we are not. I have to admit that I never saw this one coming. Parcells? http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports...-be-advising-1152708.html?cxtype=rss_dolphins I can't help feeling that Parcells isn't partly to blame for our debacle. The whole time he was building our team we didn't have his undivided attention anyway. His son-in-law, Scott Pioli is the GM for the Kansas City and Bill had his nose in over there too. I guess that's the silver lining here. If Bill takes the job, will we really miss him? It kinda seems like he really wasn't here lately anyway.
You should not want a SB winning retread. It has never, EVER worked yet: http://forums.thephins.com/showthread.php?57849-Coaching-Search-Caveat-Emptor
