We can play the "Hindsight is 20/20" game all day.

But do you really want to?

Not really, but you guys were playing the hindsight game. If you need an example as to how a free fall by a quarterback doesn't equal 'quarterback sucks', Aaron Rodgers is as good as any.

No we weren't. My point is very clear.

First, I've never said that a QB who falls is going to be good or bad. What I've written is that when 10-12 teams in need of a QB pass up the talk of the draft my team better use that info and look a little deeper into the reasons as to WHY he was passed up. Dupree wants the Dolphins to put on a pair of blinders, ear plugs, scream "Na-Na-Na-Na", and ignore everything else except what their draft guys say.

    I'm more thorough than that.

If a player falling b/c he poses serious & legitimate bust potential is different than a player falling because teams don't need the guy.

Cam is a potential bust. period. If he falls, it's because he's a potential bust, not because it's by random chance. Besides, we're not talking about "other" players b/c each player is unique, and each draft is unique. We're talking about Cam, and we're talking about this draft. Stop trying to convolute it by using other instances that are entirely unrelated to Cam.

And how do you propose the Dolphins to go about this investigation? Ask Goodell for a one day break while they try to figure out what the heck is going on? We're talking about 45 minutes (assuming Newton slides past Washington which is when the 'okay, this is odd' line of thinking would kick in) with literally every FO in lockdown mode. There's pretty much nothing to look into. You either go ahead as planned or you throw several month's worth of work out the window for no reason other than that you got no clue what the other guys are thinking. If you chose the latter, your work can't have been very good to begin with.

Then I guess you'd be the poor decision maker drafting guys like Gholston, JaMarcus Russell, and Aaron Maybin.

There's no bandwagon here. There are teams who know that Cam's a potential bust and will pass on him b/c of it...... and there are teams who know he's a potential bust and would draft him despite of it.

There are too many "less risky" ways to improve our team instead of drafting a project QB who has as good a chance of busting as he does succeeding. It's much less risky to address the ground game, Oline, and skill positions this draft and go all in at QB next year with a guy who is more NFL ready and less of a risk.

"All QB's" DONT have the same boom-bust potential. More QBs bust b/c too many are over-drafted based on upside. Cam's bust potential virtually outweighs his success potential.

    "All QB's" don't have:
    -questionable intelligence
-a history of poor decision making
-a history of NOT playing in a pro-style offense
    -questionable character
-uncertainty regarding ability to make all the NFL throws when a defender is in his face <due to his questionable footwork that may never become good enough to make him a consistently effective passer>.
    -questionable maturity

Your argument is an insult to guys like Matt Ryan, Sam Bradford, and Andrew Luck.

I propose that they use every bit of info available...up to and including the passing over by 14 other teams. Teams change their draft boards on draft day all the time. I've never really sat in on a draft, so I can't tell you HOW, but I do know that they get info ON draft day that change their opinions on players. There are info leaks, lose lips and the like that I'm sure account for some of this.

Exactly. I love grilled lobster, and I might be sold on it heading into a restaurant......... however, if I see 10 people barfing & crapping on themselves shortly after eating it, then I might reconsider my decision, especially when it's the most expensive thing on the menu. I might be happier settling for the highly recommended Dover sole and still go home with a full belly and completely satisfied with my selection.

So, essentially, you don't know :)

Alas, there's no need to butt heads over this scenario as it's all but impossible. Should Newton make it past the Titans and should Miami have Newton rated as a legitimate franchise quarterback, they'll be on the phone with Dallas and ready to part ways with a little or a lot of something to move up. Should Newton make it to #15 and the Dolphins elect to draft him, I'd not be upset because they ignored 14 teams before them. I'd be upset because they clearly aren't sold him on; if they were, they would not have let Washington and Minny got a shot.

I don't know what? What are you talking about?

Alas, I do know that if 14 other teams pass him by with nearly all of them needing a QB that, ONCE AGAIN, my team better use that fact to find why. Hell, in Cam "The Icon" Newton's case if he falls past 5th that should be a red flag.

lol @ that. that's what teams get for thinking that his problems with the law (stolen laptops & disregard for driving), issues with cheating, questionable intelligence & maturity, and sloppy footwork might cause him problems in the NFL. Wait, what?

I guess Aaron negates the 70% of 1st round QBs that have busted since like 2000, some of which didn't have near the amount of baggage or question marks that Cam does. Again, each draft is unique, as are the players in it. You can't compare Aaron's situation to Cam's. They're entirely different. If you want to make a comparison, then make one about a player similar to Cam.

Again, sometimes QBs fall. That doesnt mean they fall b/c they pose too much bust potential or that teams are scared of them. It could simply mean that specific unrelated circumstances lead to them falling based on the team drafting at the pick, their needs, and the players available.

You have no clue whatsoever, by your own admission, as to how one would manage to gain 'inside info' on someone else's board on draft day in the matter of 45 minutes. Neither do I, by the way, but I'm not the one demanding that my team better uses this unidentified intel object.

But carry on with the Newton bashing badly disguised as a draft management discussion.

Ah, but in the case of Cam Newton, it would be because everyone realized what a big bust risk he was. In the case of Aaron Rodgers, of course, QBs just fall. Certainly there weren't any really valid concerns over Aaron Rodgers *cough* Tedford *cough* as that would make your argument look, well, silly.

He pulls my chains b/c I can see our organization being set back for a decade easier than us becoming a perennial powerhouse. lol. I'd rather pay Mike Tyson to become the team's Otologist.

Besides, I love my laptop and have lots of great porn on it. If it went missing I'd be pissed.

So what you're saying is that Tedford was great at developing college QBs since he had some many of them drafted in the 1st round? lol.

Like I said, I'm not a Cam Newton fan. There's half a dozen valid reasons not to draft him. But if you broke down his tape, worked the guy out, interviewed and wined and dined him and are still prepared to draft him regardless, then the fact that 14 other teams passed won't change it - nor should it. If that's all it takes to make you flush all your work and expertise down the drain, you have no business calling shots at this level.

No, what I'm saying is that Tedford's last 4 NFL contributions before Aaron Rodgers were called Kyle Boller, Joey Harrington, David Carr and Akili Smith. Aaron Rodgers didn't fall because quarterbacks sometimes fall. He fell because a lot of people were worried that 'System Tedford' produced NFL busts. And back then, this was as valid a concern as any of Newton's red flags.

I also have no clue how "String Theory" works either. However, I know that there is a theory. I 'm also not entirely sure how a Large Hadron Collider works either, but I know they do. lol

ONCE AGAIN, I don't know how the NFL teams get all of their info during draft day. Some of it is surely due to loose lips, info leaks etc etc. They do get info, however.

Is there some kind of a language barrier? Seriously. I'm not trying to be an ***.

I'm not disguising anything. I'M talking about draft prospects falling in the draft.

the NFL doesn't consider anything, anything. Busts is something that fans and media types create.

Calling a player whose career ends early because of an injury a bust is plain stupid. That would be like saying Dan Marino would have been a horrible pick if someone took his knee out the last game of his rookie season.

Even with Brian Bosworth, when people do put him on the list of busts they always have to mention the fact he was actually pretty good player, however his career was cut short because of injuries. Brian Bosworth shows the stupidity of the media and the less than stellar knowledge of the fans. If it wasn't for injury, which wasn't a part of his college profile, he would have been a pretty good to maybe great player. In fact his only negativity was getting run over by Bo Jackson. That does not make you a bad football player.

Calling a draft pick a bust only really have meaning when the player turns out to be a bad player. All 32 draft picks have potential for a career ending injury. There is nothing they can do to prevent it. Sometimes it happens. It is so stupid to call them a bust.

If Cam's ONLY concern was his ability to efficiently transition from a 1 read spread offense to a pro style one, then I could care less what other teams think of him and would probably have no qualms about taking him at #15. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

Neither am I. I just really don't know where you're coming from with this 'info during draft day' thing. Can you name any specific player that was or wasn't picked due to these alleged leaks? Because I sure have never heard any credible report of a player rising or falling on draft day because of inside intel leaking. Quite the contrary: I've read and seen a lot about FOs positively locking things down tighter than the bloody CIA ;)

The NFL doesn't consider anything? I think you just like to argue. lol...WTF are you babbling about now? Do you really not believe that owners, coaches, players, GM's, etc etc don't consider things? lol

I think you need to look up the definition of "bust". Half the battle of playing in the NFL is staying healthy. ONCE AGAIN, Bosworth was the highest paid rookie ever in his time. He played 3 seasons. He was a BUST. B-U-S-T....BUST. lol

Not when it covers to things like busts.

Yea, people do consider Bosworth a bust, it doesn't make it less stupid to do so. He was a pretty good football palyer.

Dwight Stephenson still made it into the Hall of Fame, same with Gayle Sayers. Both their careers were cut short due to injury. Injury did not deminish their great play.

Also with "liking to argue", Pot calling kettle black.

LOL @ comparing Sayers' career to Bosworth's.

Sayers was a RB who played for 6-7 years (more than average for that position), made 5 All-Pro's, and set NFL records when he played. (Some of which may still stand)

Bosworth was the highest paid rookie EVER, played 3 injury riddled seasons (only started 25 or so games), set no records, made no All-Pro's. B-U-S-T

yet there was some question due to the fact that his career was cut short because of injury if he was a hall of fame player. Same with Dwight Stephenson.

Using bust for a player who is injured is stupid. You do not know if Bosworth didn't get hurt if he would have been an all-pro player or not. He was a damn fine football player his first few years. Displayed speed and had a great nose for the football. Calling him a bust clouds what kind of player he is.

We speak english, what is the purpose of using words? The purpose of using words is to convey the idea from one person to another person. The word bust conveys a draft pick who was a washout in the NFL. you could use injuries, however if you say, "Cam Newton is going to be a bust" you are not saying that he is going to be injured. Unless he has a injury history in college, which he does not. If a team drafts him and he gets in a car wreck, I guess he is a bust from your definition. he shouldn't have been randomly killed by a drunk driver, BUST.

If you want to keep on using the word bust to confuse people and keep on the stupid idea that injured players are busts, go right ahead. When you mention to people that Bosworth was actually a good player who could have fulfilled his potential if he wasn't injured, people are surprised. That is because when they think of busts, they think of Ryan Leafs. Players who just plain suck.

however I do realize that having an argument with you is pointless because you do not consider another person's point of view. Lets just agree that we both think of each other as idiots on this subject

You keep writing that Bosworth was "A damn good football player". In college? Yes. In the pro's?!? Nope! He played in 24 games. And he never looked "great" in ANY of those games. And you're wrong about something else... I DO KNOW that he wasn't an all-pro. How? Because he was never an ALL-PRO! LOL!

Who questioned whether or not Sayers should get into the Hall? LOL! He's a first ballot HoF'er and is STILL the youngest to ever get in!

Even the NFL network and ESPN have him on their all time B-U-S-T lists! lol...

I love your Leaf remark. Leaf wasn't a bust either. He could have been a HoF'er. He was a damn good football player. Too bad he couldn't handle the pressure. He could have blah...blah....blah.... lol
