I like to tempt fate sometimes. You know, dress it up a bit...put a skirt on it...some lipstick...a blonde wig. Oh yeah, fate, you know you like that.
Lots of teams are almost getting no-hit this season including the Rays. No shame in that. Nahhhhh the Phillies want a 4th straight NL East. I just got back frm Coor's Field and saw the Phillies beat the Rockies 12-11. Chase hit a nice grand slam and they scored 9 runs in the 7th. Great game to watch. I think there are 6 more games between the Braves and Phillies? Should be a good finish. I hope both teams make it because I want to see a Braves-Phillies NLCS. The Giants are still in it....and if the Padres keep losing they could let the Giants and Rockies back into the NL West.
The Phillies had a nice west coast trip. A little lucky, in that the Padres have fallen apart and the Dodgers just flat-out suck, but a nice trip nonetheless. I picked the Rockies to win the NL West this season. They've just been so damn inconsistent. They have a decent bullpen, and a great offense, but just like nearly every other Rockies team in history they suck on the road. That ballpark is a joke. Inflated numbers every year.
I don't think that bodes well for the Phillies. But it should be pretty interesting. The division is staying pretty close. We haven't capitalized on opportunities to pull away. The Astros four game sweep is a great example of that. I think the runner up has a great shot at the wild card right now. I wish they'd demolish Coors Field.
Why not? The Phillies finally have their entire lineup healthy and Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels are pitching the best that they have all year. Not to get smug but I think the Phillies play their best ball in September, and I see them winning the NL East. I see the Braves and Phillies both making the playoffs. The Giants lost again tonight, and I don't see them, the Rockies or Cardinals making the playoffs. Time will tell.
We have a Nate McClouth sighting. He was just robbed of a grand slam by Cameron Maybin. But the sac fly drove in two runs to tie the game. We were down 6-0 going into a rain delay. Minor struggled. Hopefully the bullpen can keep us in it.
Looks like they didn't quite get it done. ESPN says they lost 7-6 in extras. I can't think of a bigger pest this season than the Marlins. I really hope that was their last Marlins game of the year. Maybe the Marlins could be contenders if they could play well against other teams and not just Atlanta.
The Phillies get close but can never tie the Braves for first. The Padres, meanwhile, are really choking. I could see the Giants winning the NL West, and the Braves/Phillies getting the NL East and WC....unless the Rockies get hot and sneak back into it.
I don't think the Rockies are going to make it this time unless the Braves or Phils really have a bad month. I think they are a decent ways back, they have some other teams to pass too I believe. I'd have to agree the WC will probably come out of the east. Being a game out right now is still a victory for Philly at this point in time given that four game Astros sweep not too long ago. The Braves did not capitalize on that at all. I hope that doesn't turn out to be huge late in the season. The Padres are on the verge of an epic, Mets-like late season collapse.
Is there anybody left on the Braves roster who hasn't had a walkoff HR or hit? What a tight race. I'm glad the final games of the season are at Turner Field.
You're right, the Phillies have a really good record there this season...... and the Braves drop series at the Ted all the time...
Those Rockies are starting to make some noise again. I wonder why they always wait until September to start playing good ball.
They're ridiculous in September. I don't know how they do it either. What are they at ten in a row right now?
Even if they pull it together enough to make the postseason how could they possibly advance? They can't even win a series at home against the Nats anymore. Not a nice way to send Bobby into retirement.
In that case, the Philles will win the World Series, the Jets will go 15-1, and I will never have sex with Scarlet Johanssen.
JJ was apparently giving up eight runs a game because he was hurt. I didn't read any details from the ESPN article link but apparently a right handed rookie is starting tonight. I can't say I'm in love with those odds. But if the Braves are going to hit anybody well in this series it will be Hamels. At least we're still up a couple in the wild card. The bad news is the Rockies will finish the season on a 30 game winning streak.
Wow, Bravos folded like a cheap tent, I'd turn on a game and we'd be down 3-0 in the 4th inning time after time. The way they are playing, a 1 game playoff with the Padres would not surprise me.
The Phillies are rooting for you. Hopefully the Giants will find a way to miss the playoffs. I'd rather face the Padres who we own. There can't be a Phillies-Braves NLDS since we are in the same division, but we could meet for the NLCS.
They played .500 ball for a month and a half. You can't win any division doing that, except for the NL Central. All they need to do is get into the postseason. Anything can happen after that. They're going good so far vs. the Fish. It's being streamed on ESPN 3.
I never liked that pitching matchup to begin with. Today they've got one that's a lot better. The Phillies are sending out a rookie and we've got Hanson starting.
I don't think today's game is on national TV. Good job Fox showing Yankees/Red Sox. I'm sure people will enjoy a game where neither team has anything to play for. I guess they don't have any flex options to change to a more meaningful game. I know MLB network can do it.
I think a win today will do it b/c I highly doubt the Padres are going to sweep the Giants. Even though they've been good up in SF.
To be fair, Red Sox-Yankees and Phillies-Braves are alike...Braves trying to get a playoff birth and the Yankees are still fighting for their division. So, both are still important.
This is the time of year to watch baseball, the games all matter. As for the Braves, man I dunno, they have been on a short rotation for quite sometime, and the Phillies are a good team that realizes they would be better off playing the Padres than the Braves in the playoffs so they are not going to call up some Rookie to pitch a game. I think the Braves screwed up when the moved out Glaus for Lee, not stats wise, but Glaus was just a leader and the team seemed to play better when he was on the club and playing. They seemed..scrappier..with Glaus in the club house.
With an era under 2, Tim Stauffer of the Padres, has 5 (!) losses...only the Padres offense. He pitches today.
I think they better do whatever it takes to get a win today, it's probably their best chance. They've got Hudson tomorrow but Philly will have Hamels and Oswalt in for a few innings. They're starting a rookie today vs. Hanson. If they can't even get one against the Phillies this weekend at home then they probably don't deserve to be in the playoffs anyway.
