Hindered controls, weaker hardware, less intricate software, terrible interfaces, dumbed down accuracy, and a lack of quality games of many Genres(largely because of these problems) = Inferior Gaming experience. Someone's preference cannot change these facts.

Sure I will give it credit for having certain titles that are exclusive to consoles.(I.E. The only Reason I bought a 360) Except the funny thing is every one of those games are developed on a PC, and every one of them could have been on a PC if it wasn't their decision to keep them exclusive.

If someone prefers sports games how does the PC offer a better experience?

Sports games are pretty much all you can point to in that. The only reason being EA's monopoly on the sports market. Not anything to do with technical limitations on a PC.(Which cannot be said about console vs PC exclusives)

I bought a console because I like sports games(also wanted RE5). For a while the only game I had was Madden09 because it was the only way I could play it. That still doesn't make the console a better gaming experience. Maybe we just have differing views on what constitutes a gaming experience, but when the same games are made on a PC and a 360 - the differences are glaring & go far beyond the superior graphics.

No, but it certainly means preference plays a factor doesn't it?

Because if sports are your favorite you will have a better experience with consoles.

I suppose if you only own a PC, then you don't even have a gaming experience with new mainstream sports games. Thanks EA!

It could be better on a pc though. :wink2:

Football games on the PC were once the king: Front Page Sports then Madden

    Dan Marino in FPS:F '98 & Barry Sanders in FPS:F '96 & '97 were on the cover

I'll never understand why there's a "war" with gaming platforms.

Especially between the PC and console. Who has a console but no PC? I sorta understand Playstation vs. 360, because you generally buy one or the other, (unless you're Mor, which sure, you have every game system, but you're still Mor. I mean is it worth it?) I have a 360 and a computer, and I play games on both.

I think as cars have become more similar, young males have turned their **** swinging from Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge, to video games. Makes you wonder what they did before cars? Sheep vs. Goat? Stick vs. Rock?

I have both, but don't play games on PC.

I have no problem with PC games or even people who prefer PC. I was just arguing a few points with Phinz that I didn't agree with. I can definitely agree with what he said about if games are on PC and console they typically look better on the PC and everything. I just prefer consoles, that's all.

If a game is on both... I'd definitely play the console version first (unless it's an RTS or MMO). I just prefer a controller over keyboard and mouse. I'd give up pin point aiming and sharper visuals for comfort any day.

Not sure if that was directed at my comments or not because I could just be paranoid but either way I am just bashing Madden the game not exclusivity because on that I agree with you.

What I have never understood is why the NFL coming off of a year where two football games were selling well hence bringing them in extra cash would downgrade to one. It doesn't make sense to me unless they figured the NFL 2K series would win and then the NFL would lose money (2K being $20 and Madden $50-at the time). Therefore if Madden won the NFL would get more money and so they gave exclusivity rights to Madden (even possibly if there would have been a lesser bid from EA they may have done this). That's my best rationalized theory of what happened.

Hence the reason Sunday Ticket is only available through DirectTV as well. I don't understand why the NFL will not start a streaming service that lets you watch any game on any given Sunday. I would pay for that.

I have been a console gamer for more years than some on this board have been alive. I like having a machine built just for games. I don't feel like putting the money or time into keeping a computer up to date to be able to pay the newest video game.

Consoles still have a negative affect on the growth of game franchises.

Console games stagnate worse than PC & there is less depth in the games as a result.

Example: Team Fortress 2 & Call of Duty 4(great games!) were designed out of the gate, to cater to both the PC & the console crowd. The level designs are identical. Had these games been developed only for the PC, they would have been designed in a larger scope with more depth.

So yes, even though I own a 360 and a PC - I still find plenty of just criticism that consoles bring down upon the overall evolution of gaming. In general, I feel that most genre's that have games developed on the 360 - the game could have been made better for the PC due to the limitations on consoles in both control scheme & design. Environments, physics, textures, shadows, anti-aliasing- all of this & much more have certain limitations on consoles.

That all said....Consoles have done wonders in bringing gaming to the mainstream. They are more socially acceptable, and they are designed for same-screen multiplayer. This is something I have always been big on. My days playing Goldeneye with 3 other buddies are some of my best "gaming memories". Since consoles help them become more mainstream, more money gets put behind the gaming market - so it's not like my specific criticisms are suggesting that "consoles suck!!!111"

I stand firm on my sentiment, consoles are dumb, locked down PCs.

Consoles have been in the home far longer than pc's. I think it was console gaming that bought pc gaming to the mainstream.

That is just one of the PCs, there were many others out there- albeit this was the most successful. I dont think it's fair to act like PC gaming didn't take off in the 80s, being that the C64 is the best selling PC of all time.

I don't even know why you are bringing this up, as your initial point was off mark in the first place. I myself, stated

    You then retorted...

See, I considered the Commodore 64 as a gaming console, but I could see where it is considered a PC too (and I may in fact be wrong on all fronts by classifying it as a console). I did think that that was really the starting point of gaming in the mainstream though.

Really doesn't matter because this subject is like religion. There is no winner. I will continue to play consoles and like it. I will keep trying new pc games as well, but I will never enjoy an endless and pointless grindfest.

My issue with PC gaming is the expense of keeping up a computer that can run the newest games. I bought my PC in early 2006, shortly after the launch of the Xbox 360, and right now it can't run any newer games. It can run Civ IV fine thankfully but a year or so ago I tried to run the Bioshock demo on it and it couldn't even support the graphics. Given that I paid a thousand bucks for the thing you'd think it would not need an upgrade only two years after buying. With consoles this is not an issue.

Which is another reason consoles are "mainstream" and "dumb" I guess.

Although I kinda understand the reasoning because I think of MACs as dumb locked down computers.

I'll stick with dumbed down consoles. I just can't spend the money it would take to continuously be able to play high powered games on a PC. The only game I really enjoy on PC is Civ anyway and it can run on mid level PCs so no worries for me.
