So, I think I picked up a virus (or two) and now I cant fix my computer. The virus has created an error message within my McAfee...and it won't detect that the virus' are there. When I do ctrl+alt+del to bring up the task manager it says "disabled by the administrator" wth...I AM the administrator. I don't have any restore points under my system tools either....dunno where to go from here....but having the ultimate bsdm website icon and gay fetish porn on my desktop is not exactly ideal can anybody offer some assistance?
I recommend downloading AVG 8.0. Its free and it cleans out every virus you have. Make sure you download the free one though, not the one that makes you pay like $55 lol.
go to "start. run." then type in "msconfig" and go over to "startup" or something similar. list what it says. CCleaner is good, too.
holy crap....there's like 15 virus programs in there under startup....i'm gonna try AVG first and see what it does...
ok. before you delete anything in there make sure you look it up Windows Process Information if you delete the wrong things your system can really go FUBAR.
if you still have the disks that came with the computer i would try and just reinstall the entire operating system to wipe the harddrive. Unless you have important files in your comp.
i do... actually, to be quite honest, I was trying to download a cracked version of photoshop....I should've known better
i'd rather than just take a look around try and find out what's wrong and delete whatever it is that's causing the issue.. reformating takes at least an hour with windows.
i'd uninstall mcafee since it's not doing you any good. run avg to clean the computer. then decide which antivirus you want. (ok, i love avg, but it seems like the simplest solution).
well if you're asking if it's good I can't give you any idea. by a general rule of thumb i try my best not to go in and mess with the registry. for most of the things you're going to need to mess around with windows has provided you with a GUI to mess around with. editing the registry without the proper knowledge is like being blindfolded in a field of bear traps. you know you might be able to make it through okay but the chances aren't all that great. think of the registry as a filing system. each section is like a drawer and within that drawer are specific files that your computer needs to operate. it's all text and some of it is closed source (meaning you can't mess with it anyway).
if you use that link i posted previously it might pop up there. it doesn't sound like anything you need. the best advice i can give if you want to start messing with this stuff is to create a system restore point before you go messing with things. once you do that untick all that stuff one by one. if it works after you do it create an updated system restore point. so on and so forth.
This is what I get: Search Results for 'E_FATIADA' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- E_FATIADA - exeLibrary.com has no information on E_FATIADA at this time - your request has been added to our database and our writers are working frantically to add everything. In the interm, PCTools' Registry Mechanic fixes a wide range of errors associated with numerous executables.
Amanda always scan files before you open them when you download stuff like that. Download Clamwin just for that reason and use AVG to scan the whole computer.
Dump McAfee. Go out and get the latest AVG. Run it in safe mode. To get into safe mode tap F8 when the computer boots. Quarantine whatever it finds. Don't delete the files.
well mcafee had a download scanner...apparently that **** didn't work. i'm beyond pissed....the computer just FROZE in the middle of trying to upload all my important files and I had to use the damn windows cd to restore....it saved my programs but i lost all my files...i cant even begin to describe the anger/sadness/anxiety i just got....
sorry to hear that. Lifehacker, tips and downloads for getting things done that place has tons of computer help for windows, macs & linux. if you're looking for good stuff to help combat viruses, online storage, etc. go there. mandy, might i suggest making a system restore right now. that way if anything goes wrong in the future you at least know way back to this point that you'll have a clean system.
nah, there was no way...the computer froze and wouldn't restart. the only way i got it to come back on was with the windows cd.
