Whats fact? You cant PROVE someone is overrated. Thats your (and his) opinion. And All-Star games are a popularity contest bro, Jason Varitek made it this year for cryin out loud with the worst batting average in the league! EDIT: And you do know the Angels won a WS in 2002 right?
I was referring to the fact that the Red Sox have owned the Angels in the postseason in their recent matchups. Look it up. I agree that All-Star games are a popularity contest, but you'd think an "outstanding" player would have participated in more than one. P.S. - The Varitek thing is a terrible example. Varitek shouldn't have been invited this year, but it's not his fault there's a tremendous lack of talent at that position throughout the entire league.
You'd owned us in the regular season as well, and we saw what all that history did for you this year. I'm definitely still afraid of the Red Sox, but given what we've seen this year I just dont understand how Sox fans can try to brush the Angels aside.
Over the past month, this Angel team has played way over their heads offensively. It looks like they might be peaking at the wrong time. Do you honestly trust Hunter and Rivera in the playoffs. Hunter is excellent defensively, but the guy has never been great at the dish. I still think that even with the addition of Teixeira, a lack of offense will be the downfall again for this Angel team. I look up and down this lineup and with the exception of Vlad, it doesn't really scare me. Who knows, I could be way off on this.. just my two cents.
Recent postseason matchups mean nothing. If they did, your team wouldnt have won the WS in 2004. Besides, one could argue those Red Sox were just flat out better. Not the case this year. As for Tex, look up his numbers bro. Better yet, look up his numbers over his career and compare them to other, current First Baseman in the AL and tell me he's not desverving of more than 1 All-Star appearance. And (sorry In Flames) I find it hard to believe that no other catchers in the AL were more deserving of an ASG than Tek given his average. He was chosen on reputation alone and to think otherwise would be silly.
As FaninPatsyLand said, "Varitek shouldn't have been invited this year, but it's not his fault there's a tremendous lack of talent at that position throughout the entire league", which is completely true and that popularity of course had something to do what that as well. I'm not arguing that point whatsoever. However, this thread is about Kotch and Tex, not Tek.
I wasn't trying to dog Varitek bro. I actually like him for what its worth. I was merely using him as an example to dispute his opinion that Tex is not outstanding because he "has only made one All-Star team." Tek just happened to be the best example off the top of my head.
It's cool brother. My leave Tek alone comment was leaning heavily towards sarcasm anyways. Eventhough he is my favorite player it's quite obvious to everyone that his bat has been garbage this season, and I hate to say/admit it, age is catching up to him.
I trust both can be productive in the playoffs. The offense obviously isnt going to get 15 hits a game, I mean we cant face Red Sox and Yankee pitching every week...(joking). TBH though, even if the offense produces half what it is now we still have a great chance to win. It all comes down to who's hot at the right time, we'll see who that is in a couple months. You trust Jason Bay to protect Big Papi? Your own offense just took a big hit, while the Angels offense has been upgraded quite a bit since last years playoffs.
I'd honestly rather have Bay protecting Ortiz then a disgruntled player who'd rather sit on the bench and smile at the camera then help his team actually win. We took a hit to our offense when Manny decided to take games off and give up, so I see Bay as a welcomed addition to the team. The writing was on the wall and it was time for both the player and team to part ways, enough is enough. I appreciate what Manny did for us in the past, but the past is the past. The Sox are a new team now and we'll just have to see where that leads us. The Angels are w/out a doubt the favorites in the AL with good reason.
