I thought this would be a good discussion. Here is a sneak preview:

"Rookie cornerback Sean Smith has been doing some awfully good things on the practice field, enough to justify his earning a start on Monday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But Tony Sparano didn’t want to get too excited too quickly. Showing him something in practice is important, but showing him in a game takes it to another level."

I'm really excited to see what Smith can do this year. I was hoping that we would select him in the first round, much to my surprise and delight, he was still there in the 2nd round. I believe he has what it takes to be a starter and will win the job opposite Allen. :)

I think he will make the starting post next to Allen. He is looking good and if he keeps this up I won't be surprised if he did start there on September 13th. vs the Falcons.

Smith impressed me more than any other new player out there, I really liked what I saw from this kid. Vontae will be fine, will likely be missing a huge chunk or two of his *** tonight after Tony gets through with him, but he will make a solid Nickel Cb for us, JMHO.

The OL still needs to solidify and create some running lanes, that was to me the biggest concern last night.

I agree. That was the pick that saved the draft for me. I wanted Smith with one of our first two picks. I was despondent after the Davis pick. Then came the White pick which I didn't hate but I thought we had lost any chance at Smith. When he lasted to and was selected with our 2nd second rounder he brought me back off the ledge. I can't say I loved the rest of the draft but I consoled myself with the fact that we got Smith. He was the corner in the draft who I thought had the best chance to become the next Asoumaga.

Agreed...I was right there with you at that point in the second round. But getting Smith where we did, including trading down even more and getting a pick?......that wasn't brilliant drafting I thought.

Like you said, that made the draft for me...

Yea, Sean Smith was a steal. He will be able to cover the big receivers we play this season.

    Moss 2 times
    Owens 2 times.
    Kenny Britt
    Andre Johnson
    Michael Jenkins
    Marques Colston
    Limas Sweed
    Vincent Jackson

We play some big *** receivers this season. I didn't even realize how many until now.

I don't expect him to shutdown Moss, TO, or Andre Johnson.

    Hopefully I'm wrong.
