Way I see it is this, Paterno was in his mid 70's when the 02 assualt happened, he was from an era when you just didn't question what your superiors tell you, there was a time when that was simply how it was.

Paterno was screwed as soon as Schultz and Curley lied to him as to him, that was the end of it, my dad was the same way.

I know, seems quaint now, as we "know" better, however that is the way I see it until proven otherwise..conclusively, I simply despise character assassination by innuendo, it pisses me off to no end.

Perhaps I'm reading it wrong, but I think Padre is referring to JoePa, in which case there's not a 23 page Grand Jury report on the alleged wrongdoing of JoePa.

Yea you're right. He did tell the police. As we all know, it's campus police that handles child molestation cases and ****. Oh wait.

Paterno wasn't the one to stipulate that questions could only be about Nebraska, just like Paterno wasn't the one who cancelled the press conference, both were the University's decision.

Despite what the hierarchy is, Joe Paterno has no superiors at Penn State. That's a fact. He's THE MAN there. He wanted this investigated, it gets investigated.

In the report it makes clear Paterno knew that Sandusky was molesting a young boy, and we know that while it did bring it to the attention of the AD he had to know that their was no effort made in reporting it to the police and that Paterno himself never made an attempt to report it to the police, even after he knew that the AD and other officials never did. The result of his and others inactions resulted in more boys getting molested.

You can make this about the law if you like, but this has very little to do with the law and everything about being a man and doing the right thing, which would have been protecting vulnerable children from a monster like Sandusky. It's about morals and the failure of men exhibiting them.

Until there is new information. I personally give Paterno about a year to live after he retires.

As I've said Paterno should've contacted police directly (in addition to telling his bosses), but if the campus police are just an extension of the local police force (which I think is what Padre said before) then it would be the same as calling any police dept.

From the Penn State Campus police info site:
Penn State police officers are certified by the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission. They have the same authority as municipal police officers in Pennsylvania and are required to have the same basic police training, first aid training, and annual in-service training required for municipal police.

Sandusky was investigated in 1998, while still a coach. He was fired in 1999. Highly doubt that was coincidence. He was still bringing little boys with him to Penn State as late as 2007. 7 years after he was caught by the janitor, 5 years after being caught by the GA. They knew this guy was raping boys, yet still allowed him to bring boys on campus. Absolutely pathetic.

It is about the law in addition to other things you mentioned. I never said I agreed with what Padre said, you just made it seem like the Grand Jury statement was an investigation of Paterno (based on what you were replying to), and that's where I took issue.

And I read the part of the report about victim 2 (the one McQueary witnessed), and I don't recall it ever being mentioned that Paterno knew of molestation going on as it never explicitly said what he was told by Mike.

Meanwhile, the NCAA will say jack**** about this.

Maybe I'm old fashioned. If it is proven that Paterno knew about even a single incident and didn't go to the police, deciding instead to cover up the crime, he is just as guilty as Sandusky. If we are talking about multiple incidents he knew about, or even had reason to suspect, and did nothing, he is scum beyond belief, and is the world's biggest hypocrite to boot.

Because this has no bearing on the current affairs of the NCAA. No NCAA rules have been broken, so they really have nothing to say/rule on. There's no competitive advantage being fostered or playing field unlevel, there's no threatening of amateur status going on by the institution.

This is a far greater stain on the University than any sanction the NCAA could give anyway. I'd bet PSU officials would choose the "death penalty" 10 times out of 10 over the current events.

Pads said there were attacks based on innuendo, I referred to the GJ report as a hint mine were based on the report.

Go to page seven in the report, first paragraph last sentence, it says the GA phoned Paterno and then went to his home where he told him what he had seen.

But they did fire him, in 1999. As for from 1999-present, you're right. They still could of and should of banned him from stepping foot on Penn State property though, like Clinton County did by banning him from their school district in 2009.

Stuff like that happens in most every mahjor college program. When I say "clean" I mean theres not any real recruiting violations, nothing really scandalous during Paterno's tenure.

Well in 2002 he wasnt on Paterno's staff so how is that Paterno's responsibility at that point?

What I cant understand is how people can lay blame at someone who, while didnt fulfill all his responsibilities morally, but did fill fulfill his responsibilities legally. Could he have done more, yes, but he isnt required to. IMO people are very quick to judge other people for their actions but they cant put themselves in the same situation and think about how they would have reacted truthfully. How would you have reacted in this situation?

Its not a good things but the statement being made is, in logical context, that why would Paterno knowingly affiliate himself with a known child molester?

I tend to take your definition of "board of directors"... :)

I thought he retired in 1999 (hence being given an office to use and such)?

And yes, I've been referring to 2002 when McQueary brought the allegations to Paterno. Paterno couldn't fire Sandusky in that instance.

And yes (again), if there was a case in 1998 (and I think I heard there were allegations as early as 1994) as is being reported he should've been banned from PSU (and certainly no later than 2002, assuming they were unable to verify anything in '98).

I don't give a crap what he did legally, it's the lack of morals that has me disgusted, I don't understand how anyone can't be? And this is the part that has had me question humanity today, people again and again saying he did enough and what was required, it honestly makes me sick to my stomach.

That's true that he wasn't fired but retired. However to me, it was more "retired". As in forced out. Maybe not, but that's my suspicion anyways.
