Oh no doubt. JPW put some sauce on that strike and he held it above his head and brought it in, in double coverage.
Alabama need to stick to what they've done best all season; let their big OL overpower defeses at the point. Florida's front 7 is no match for that line. They went away with it, then they tried that bumbled FG and allowed the Gators back in.
Mark Ingram looked like his dad there in the SB against the Bills. If you've never seen that play Alen, it was akin to Mark Bavaro's great play. If I remember, the Giants had a 3rd and 11 and Ingram was stopped after about 6 yards and bounced off about 678 tackles and got the first down. I'll try and find it.
Just tried to find it - no luck, but Mark Ingram senior, who made the SB play and who caught Marino's fake spike in NY - is doing 7 years for money laundering. Ouch.
I noticed this early in the game but Cody has trouble stepping over trash at his feet. I wonder how much of that is because of his injury.
Johnson can really lower the boom. One thing working IN Tebow's NFL favour is that if he can be pretty accurate, as he generally is, with such bad footwork and mechanics, with a LOT of work and a good QB coach........but he HAS to make that throw. He had his man inside and with a stride and he threw it behind him. That's a rudimentary touchdown completion there and they miss a FG instead. HAS to make that throw.
On that JPW run, if you have it on rewind....just watch Caldwell's head. It's everywhere. He's mightily impressive.
On Ingram's run to the right on Bama's last drive, Jones threw an awful block, if you can call it that. He was hesitant to throw the block and in the end, he just put his hands on the DB. Could have been a touchdown.
Cody apparently is injured- as alluded by Boomer- but I'm not terribly impressed so far. I want to see more of him at full speed. I wonder if we're better served taking a Pat Sims/Red Bryant type guy in the 3rd/4th rd area- big run stuffer/space eater- rather than popping a 1st on a NT. I just don't want us to reach.
Florida is being worn down in the front 7. Now JPK has an age in the pocket. Meyer has stopped blitzing off the corner. Better route by ones.
Put on an earlier game. He's playing at about 80% and like I said, this isn't really a game to suit him. The NFL game will suit him much more than chasing these 175lb speedsters around. He's being spelled much more by the lighter tackles because of that very reason.
Jim, as I alluded to earlier, Cody's role in this game is much more of that as a consigliere rather than mafia boss if you will. Alabama are trying to keep Tebow, as much as possible, in the pocket because he's less of a threat. What they're doing is trying, when possible to keep Hightower and McClain in the box, assisted at times by Rashad Johnson but they can ONLY do that if Cody is drawing double teams on every play and soaking up the interior. If he's forever busting the pocket, he's forcing Tebow by the very nature of the play to where Alabama DON'T want him and that's the perimeter. It's also opening the A gaps up for huge gains up the gut. It's a chess match and today Cody is a pawn and not the King. Doesn't mean he's having any less of an impact.
Well I don't see Cody lasting. Personally Gerald McCoy of Oklahoma is the best DT I've seen this season. Marks is a terrific player, as is Jerry. You'd be happy with any of that group, although I still wonder if Cody isn't TOO big for what we do.
I understand- he can be Luca Brasi tonight. The guy is good, no doubt. I'm just wondering if Perry is better. ps- I just saw your last post- he may be too big, and I wonder what that says about his level of discipline. It goes back to the injury thing- I'd still want to see him kick some butt even if he's in contain mode tonight- more physical dominance.
Cody being too big is one of my questions as well. I would think that we'd want our guy to be somewhere between 300-310.
For what we do, Jerry might be better. Peria can be ill-disciplined in his lanes at times, but that's so coachable.
I saw Jerry listed at 6-2, 290- a little small for what we want on the nose. Are those measurements accurate?
Remember where he's come from in terms of football experience or lackthereof. He's apparently a hard worker and whilst his weight has been up, he's always worked hard to get it off.
I don't think so. And you know, that's pretty much weight wise what Jay Ratliff is. A NT between 303 and 315 is generally what we're after in our defence.
