Heres some good news from http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/teams/report/MIA/10568064 Parcells has already reached out to six-time Pro Bowl DE Jason Taylor, who is signed through 2009, but LB Joey Porter is another story. Parcells is preaching the character issue, and he couldn't be happy that Porter ripped Cam Cameron in a team meeting and the story got out to Fox Sports. It would be tough for Parcells to cut a player who will make a guaranteed $20 million. RB Ricky Williams underwent surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle after carrying the ball just six times in his comeback game against the Steelers. His agent said Williams was ahead of schedule and excited to play for Parcells. S Yeremiah Bell was expected to have a breakout season but suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in the season opener. He's a playmaker and should be re-signed, especially on a team that has very few playmakers in the secondary, as its 14 interceptions attest to. That tied for 27th in the league.
Feel sory for those who have never read it. They made a movie of it a while ago, not a big name thing but had Jim Cavezel as Edmond - not a bad flick actually.
I have it. However, the book is still much better. You get a much better feel of his anguish and thus the validation of his revenge in the book. At least I did. I still go back and read it once a year or so...
I would be shocked if Tuna traded JT. He of all people on this planet should know the value he brings to the table. But what to do about Porter? He is ABSOLUTELY NOT a Tuna player. Porter disappointed me this past year. For what he is paid to do he underachieved. But $20 M in guaranteed money?!
you cant blame ALL of it on Porter. He di come around the second half of the year and played great... But when Dum Capers is lining him up at DE, he will never be successful
Not to mention we all forget that he had surgery in pre-season. That being said, I could actually see Tuna shopping Porter...if nothing else to get his attention As for JT....as long as Tuna is in charge, he will ALWAYS WEAR AQUA AND ORANGE... unless of course Tuna get a steal of a deal
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_is_Bill_Parcells_nickname_The_Big_Tuna http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=1006011303190 "I think it goes back to my first time with the Patriots. There was an old commercial from StarKist with Charlie the StarKist tuna. So my players were trying to con me on something one time, and I said, 'You must think I'm Charlie the Tuna,' you know, a sucker, and that's kind of how it started. We started with it that year and [Charlie and the other fish] used to wear those little tuna helmets, you know, tuna pictures on their helmets. That's where it all started."
Porter will be here longer than Taylor just because of the guaranteed money involved. You can't just pay Porter his money and cut ties. If the Fins get a deal for Taylor that is a "can't turn down" type of deal, he's likely gone, but it's nice to see that Parcells might see him in his future plans.
You can try to trade porter of maybe leave him and play him in his natural position.. Or better yet play him on critical down unlike what DOM did in 2007... I think Porter and Jason could be here next year though I would trade Jason and keep Porter for one more year or find a partner willing to cover the money, or split it and get something like a pick for him..
Porter isn't going anywhere. If he didn't have 20mil coming his way than maybe your right, but that's not the case.
Off-topic...my favorite is the one with Depardieu. One reason that I'd like to become fluent in French is to read the book in its original language. That and Sentimental Education.
Bell isnt a playmaker regarding INTS. He only has one in his 4 seasons with the Fins. He does make tackles and gets around the ball but he doesnt make the big plays.
Exactly. It's like if you had a degree in microbiology (hi, Mal!) and were hired to work in that field, but then were used as a Lab Tech instead; not only would you be miscast, but you would also be so discouraged that it would only be human nature that it would affect your outlook, and therefore your performance. We're financially stuck with Porter, unless we want to eat an enormous sum against the cap to get rid of him. We might as well use every means to get what production we can from him. Besides, the combination of Porter and Taylor working together in space could be formidable, assuming we keep Taylor.
Anybody see what they listed as team needs: QB, DT, WR.... wow, I can think of several other positions that we need help at other than WR and QB.... sure QB is a problem area, but what about LB... S... CB... TE.... OL!....
Look at what i quoted sabs mate. That quote was made out to sound like Bell is needed back to contribute with INTS. Bell doesnt get INTS. I know Bell can blitz and can tackle, his 5 sacks over 2 seasons prove he can disrupt plays. I want Bell back and healthy for next season so maybe he can have his "breakout" season. Problem is he hits 30 in March and his injury isnt a gimme regarding him coming back 100%. Lets see.
Read it again - clearly Dolphins gave up the INTs not Bell made them. Nothing to do with Bell and INTs. Quote says Bell is good but the Dolphins sucked last year because they gave up the ball too often. Seems a narrow point to try to pin the season on but it's not making wild claims for Bell.
I was just stating this part of the article as being good that there's a chance he might be resigned. Maybe he doesn't get 5-10 INTS a season, but the man makes plays. that's all.
