After a disappointing end to the 2010 season that saw the AFC East Champion New England Patriots essentially embarrassed by the New York Jets, Robert Kraft has decided to bring in the outspoken Paul 13 as his right hand man in the hopes of re-energizing the entire organization. Since Scott Pioli left the team in 2009, Belichick has had complete authority in all personnel decisions. However, that will now change, for at least the foreseeable future as Paul 13 takes over. We go now to a live press conference in Foxboro, Mass... Paul 13: Hello everybody. Well here we are again. This is now my fourth team in as many years working under the one year confines that are the GML. And I must say this is my most exciting opportunity taking over this storied franchise. We have a lot to work with here from a talent perspective and draft ammunition point of view. Having said that, we have a lot of work to do as we work to get this team back to the Super Bowl. I won't go into details at this time but suffice it to say, there will be some new faces for the 2011 season. With that, I'll answer any questions you may have. Reporter: Were you in the room when Bill was told he no longer had final authority and if so, what was his reaction? Paul 13: Oh you know Bill, he rarely shows any emotion. He knows that this is a temporary thing and the goal here is a common goal and that is for us to work together for what is best for this franchise. Reporter: So he expects to get final say back after your tenure ends? Paul 13: Well, that is up to Mr. Kraft Mr. Kraft: Lets just worry about the now before we worry about the then.... Paul 13: Well said sir... well said Reporter: What will be the number one offseason priority? Paul 13: Certainly after what we saw against the Jets one of the priorities is to improve team speed offensively. When the Pats moved Randy Moss, I felt that opened the door for a guy like Brandon Tate as the deep threat. For whatever reason that didn't work as planned. When you see Tom standing in pocket for as long as he did unable to find an open receiver, I think that tells you all you need to know. Reporter: You've got some free agent decisions to make regarding retaining some guys, Mankins and Light for example. Any indication which way you may be going with these players? Paul 13: We'll do what is best for the Patriots' franchise and our great owner Robert Kraft. Reporter: You have six draft picks in the first three rounds. Any idea on what the draft strategy could be? Paul 13: Really haven't had enough time to evaluate the roster and see what areas are going to be priorities. The goal is always to maximize your draft position by taking the best player available. But that has to fit into a certain need as well. Obviously, we're not looking for certain positions, quarterback for example. Clearly, if we like a guy that we feel we'll have to move up to get, we have the ammo to do that and I can't rule that out. But at the same time, if we're not slotted in a good spot, talent wise, we'll look to trade down to maximize our value at another time. Reporter: Will you be trading any players... any auctions? You're known for making big moves... Paul 13: If we can improve our team by making the right move, we'll certainly make that move. But we're trying to get this team to the SuperBowl. You don't clean house and make a bunch of trades just to make them. You have to make your team better in the process and keep the nucleus of your team in place. The Patriot way has always been to build thru the draft, sprinkle in some complimentary guys via free agency, but to keep the guys you want long term and avoid them from hitting the open market. I don't see that changing. The only restriction we have though is that we can't trade picks for future picks, as Bill has done an exemplary job of doing in the past. So the quantity of picks we have in this 2011 draft will either turn into quality young players or quality experienced NFL players. That is my pledge to this organization. Thank you for your time. And God Bless the United States of America.
