Very cool that Philbin & Shula have great rapport. I have made mention over the past couple of years how sad it is to see Shula having to go onto the field via a golf cart. Looks like he can't walk much at all these days. Sad. Getting old sucks.

I loved when Coach Shula once said "..you can't play football for us.." when he released a guy.

Really funny Cefalo story, when he told Coach Shula he was going to retire for a broadcasting gig, Coach told him "..are you sure you want to retire I can trade you to SF.."

Looking at his face, there may be some steroids at play in his medicines. If he has any pulmonary problems, that is almost a certainty!

Age has caught up with the most winningest NFL head coach in history. As fans we should enjoy Don as long as we can while he's still with us. Good to see Philbin is tapping that resource!

Yup.. As long as he can get to the stadium (Lousy GM or not), he was the best HC in the NFL for a long, long time and deserves every bit of respect we as fans can show him.

When you have 347 career coaching wins, you sort of become immune from that kind of criticism.

Coach Shula is a living football god. If Philbin, or anyone else, can half a third of the sucess that Shula did, he'll be a very sucessfull coach.

    You mean 347 x 1/3 x 1/2 ? That would be 57.8333333... wins.

At 83 he's lived a long life. Longer than a lot of NFL vets. Indeed let him enjoy life.

Great coach and class man. He is the Miami Dolphins. He is to them what Lombardi was to Green Bay.

Also makes me thankful for NFL Films (though the Network hasn't a clue how to utilize all the value they have in that archive - they should be showing these coaches and teams in their heyday). But, NFLF is the only reason fans in the future will be able to connect with these all-time great coaches and leaders of men. They were true Commanders - a lost breed, if you will.

    guess that's okay if Philbin only coaches 5 seasons: 7 + 10 + 12 + 13 (AFC champ) + 16 (SB win)

Completely agree. I lucked up and met him twice. Very humble and seemed to love to talk to fans. I very much respect this man for his accomplishments and attitude.

How old is the guy, for crying out loud? 83? If I get to that age with just difficulty in walking back and forth several times along the length of a football field and everything else intact, I'll be grateful.

Wasn't he given a cold shoulder by the Dolphins for several years, during the Johnson/Wannstedt era? Didn't the Dolphins have to give a draft choice to the Colts for his leaving the Colts for the Dolphins?
