My 3 year old PC runs Mass Effect, Gears of War, Command and Conquer and every other 360-PC port that has been released without any problem. They look great too, some of the best looking games I have installed on this machine by far.

You do not need a ground-breaking up to date PC to run those titles by any means, but if you do have one then those games look far superior than on any of the consoles.

Just because some people chose to invest into consoles instead of buying a PC, that does not make a multi-platform game like Mass Effect any more exclusive.

because the money still goes into microsoft's pocket. They aren't losing money to their direct competitors ( Sony and Nintendo) by releasing games for the PC.

That is a very broad-stroke you just brushed. All of the PC gamers I know(many of which spend a ton of time on their PCs) all happen to also own at least one of the consoles. I havn't picked up a 360 or a PS3 just yet, but now that the PS3 has a bright future for their game selection I will be more tempted.

do you have a console or are planning on buying one? if not than microsoft is gaining money by releasing games for PC by getting sales from a market they wouldn't be able to get by just having the games on the 360.

would you say most of the PC gamers you know buy most of their games for the PC or for consoles? thats the point i was trying to make.

people will normally buy the bulk of the games they play for one system or the other, they may buy games for the other system, but not nearly as many.

It depends on the game. Mass Effect is not a Games for Windows title even though the only console it is on is the 360. That money goes into BioWare & EA's pocketbooks.

When someone decides to purchase Mass Effect on the PC instead of the 360, yes Microsoft is losing money. None of that money spent on Mass Effect PC ends up in the MS games division.

If I am playing a game, I want to sit on the couch or recliner to play in front of a TV bigger than 19". I don't want to sit at my desk looking at a monitor after having to be behind one all day at work. The PC is not a console (in my eyes, though yes, it is a platform), and I completely ignore it when discussing exclusivity in regular conversation. As I pointed out, there are plenty of emulator's out there, so technically anything can be played on the PC. I mean games are typically advertised as being exclusive on a particular console, not PC. I don't recall ever seeing an ad or Crysis that says "exclusively for your PC," because no one cares if something is exclusive to PC, because most things are on PC.

Want to know why so many people thought Halo sucked, yet so many people who had Xbox loved it? Because it was one of the few console shooters to be done right. Maybe it was "ho-hum" compared to PC, but so many people don't use their PC's for gaming and find gaming with the mouse and "asdf" keys to be foreign. PC people hated it because it was harder to use than the mouse they were so accustomed to, and they had better options available to them (in their opinion). It is two different markets IMO, and they are exclusive to each other, so one game for one doesn't apply to the other.

if that person has no intention of buying a 360 in the first place then microsoft is not gaining or losing money.

Honestly, to me this is like saying EA does not have a exclusive license to make NFL games, since I can still go play FF on yahoo (et all) every year.

Depends on which friend I am referring to.

I don't agree. I think people who own multiple platforms buy the games they want, period. Tons of people who are big into PC gaming are also into consoles. I certainly call myself a PC freak, but my favorite games of all time still are from consoles.

If that person owns a 360 already then they are losing money. The game looks far better on the PC than on a 360, it's not even debatable which version is superior and someone who owns a gaming rig will obviously want it for the PC.

Since Microsoft doesn't make anything on the sale of Mass Effect for the PC, how can you claim that they aren't losing money?

Even with the people who don't own a 360, Microsoft is not gaining anything buy those purchasing the game on the PC. So why make it appear otherwise?

they do lose money if the person has a 360 or was planing on buying a 360 for mass effect. They don't gain money from the sales of it. I never denied that, i just said they don't lose money on a PC sale if the person never intended on ever buying a 360.

Are you really that naive about PC gaming to look at it that way? PC games have better graphics, physics, controls, online communities, larger battles, and more modification capabilities yet you are comparing it to that?

    ....makes perfect sense.

when did this become a 360 versus PC debate. I thought we were arguing the semantics of caling 360 games that come out for the PC not exclusives.

If you look, you will see that I certainly did not derail this thread into that debate. All I did was explain that for a game to be real exclusive to me, it should not be multi-platform such as Mass Effect. But yes I will defend the PC when slammed for no reason ;)

I didn't ****ing slam the PC, I explained what was an exclusive to me. You are the one basically calling people dumb for recognizing a console game as exclusive when it came out for the PC too (even if it was exclusive, even by your standards, at the time of release).

We have different definitions of exclusives, fine. I said "IMO," like 20 times throughout all these posts.

I never once said console games were better than PC games, not once. I even stated an example about how PC games are better (though in a round-a-bout way) with referencing Halo on xbox.

The FF (since there is no Madden on PC this year) was an example of how little I (me, myself, singular, just me, no one else necessarily) consider the PC for gaming. It was not a knock on PC performance or games.

**** man, I didn't even know Gears of War was out for PC, that further explains why I don't even factor PC in when declaring exclusivity for a console. I mean the OP asked about 360 exclusives and mentioned the PS3 too, the PC never even crossed my mind.

Maybe I misjudged your intent of the Yahoo comment, but that was what I was referring to. Im sorry that I cannot see a game being both Exclusive and Multi-Platform, but that is the case for me.

If PC gamers were running around calling Gears of War exclusive for the PC would there not be people correcting him? It's the same way that Gears of War is not exclusive for the 360, it is multi-platform

Here is a list from the great infallible, word is god Wikipedia.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_exclusives

Since these games don't appear on the list and since wikipedia never changes I win, game over.

You could always hook up your PC to an HDTV. That's what I'm planning to do whenever I decide to get a new laptop.

I have an early 360, only way to get 1080p is VGA (though my tv can only handle 1080i max).

My PC has no HDMI port. All the slots on my AV receiver are pretty much spoken for anyways.

Ah I see. Yea, I was glad I waited till they came out with the 120GB one. And my new 4850 has HDMI ports so I'm good there.

I mean I have two open slots on my receiver through HDMI, but I have 5 inputs (cable, ps3, 360, wii, and onkyo 805 hd player) in it already. So even though I can add more hdmi, I can't really add more devices.
