Philbin does not fill me with confidence.

 

No the dead money next off season would be $4.4M. You would "save" $7.1M, though that is not the correct way to look at it. Cap space is transferable, and all that matters is the cash flow.

Suggesting that you get only $5.5M in cap relirf ignores the fact that you're ridding yourself of future cap hits.

The $6.6M is already a sunk cost. The Dolphins already paid that money to Wallace. Accelerating the cap hit wont change that.

 

Not really ignoring the future hits when it's all but obvious he will be let go in 2016, so in essence you are paying 5.5M if you want to keep him this season, one year rental if you will. Next season you cut ties or pay him 11.45M. Everything else is factored in.

At this point he is worth keeping in 2015, and not so much in 2016.

 

Bill Bilichick fell asleep at the combine a few years ago too. The raiders gm fell asleep at the combine this year too....... apparently watching guys in spandex run 40 yards is boring. I never would have guessed.....

 

If the picture of Philbin showed him awake the same people would be *****ing that he was even there.

 

If you cut him in 2016, he will take up $15M in cap space between this season and next. If you cut him in 2015, he will take up $6.6M. Thats a $9M difference between keeling him for 2015 or not.
