what's up with all our draft picks except for one (vontae Davis) signing for four years? 4 years from now, we're not gonna be able to resign all of them plus everyone else on the team whose contract runs out at the same time. does this concern anyone else or am i over reacting? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/07/20/signing-status-of-afc-east-draft-picks/
Four-year contracts for players who are not drafted in the first round are pretty standard. Look at the Patriots. They had three 2nd round picks, right? They all signed four-year contracts.
Good point to the original post, however, LOTS of things can happen during these 4 years such as extensions, buyouts etc I think Matt nailed it in that this is pretty typical protocol
Besides, as nice as it would be, the whole 2009 draft class will not be on the team even three years from now. I'll be happy if half of them are successful/productive enough to resign.
Pretty standard stuff as has been pointed out. I just hope they ARE all still around in 4 years so we have to worry about it.
also contracts can be renegotiated/redone at any time.so we could resign a few in yr 3 and a few in yr 4..or we could resign them all tommorow for 7 yr deals(nonsense but we "could" if we wanted).to me it's more of a achiles' heal though because i hate when a player signs a 4-7 yr deal then starts whining in his 2nd or third yr that so n so just got paid and why isn't he making that much.players should have to play out the contracts they sign.
Yeah, if you look at what everyone else is doing, after the first half of the first round, it's all 4 yr contracts...I don't think it's an issue...it's just the way the business is done now...Add me to those thinking you may be over-reacting slightly...the important thing right now is that they are all in camp...
on the suface I see your concern however have to concede to the FrontOffice they don't make a lot of mistakes the business end is solid
Point well made Brother, but my optimistic viewpoint is hoping that ALL of them are good enough that they don't need upgrading!
i admire your optimism. You actually think we're going to want all of them back after 4 years. We all know it just doesn't work that way normally.
